I'm picking up my first ever Vette on 11/1. Black 07 3LT Z51 glass top. Totally psyched. Thank you all for the help and advice along the way. I'm sure you must get sick of the same questions from all us newbies year after year. If you have the patience, here's another: how do you not get speeding tickets every day? What's the best fuzz-buster?

Learn the rules. I've driven over 100,000 miles in a Corvette and never gotten a ticket. I don't always obey the law (always? HA!) but I know the limits. Many years ago I drove with a detector but I think they are far more likely to get you a ticket when you are stopped for a close call. Just hitting the brake when the detector goes off can get you stopped while cruising on through would not. These days I run through speed traps almost daily and am never stopped because I know the limits. If someone is occasionally passing you, that's the limit. Also, cruise control allows you to go much faster without any hassles.

Just b/c one has a high performance vehicle one doesn't have to violate traffic laws. Don't speed and you won't get a ticket(s.)
Front plates (where required), tinted glass (if you must) within limits, tires within wheel wells, cell phones only with hands free, and obeying all traffic signs will keep you financially solvent.
BTW, I love the in car phone on my '09. Just reminded myself that I need to buy some minutes!
Drive the speed limit, check entrance ramps for police cars entering the highway, and pay attention to the speed limit. My cousin is a CA Highway Patrolman and he tells me the last thing cops want to do is pull you over on the highway (it's dangerous for them.)
The best fuzz-buster is the two eyeballs in your head. No need for a radar detector if you use those.
No tickets in the vette for the last 10+ years.. I drive responsibly.. you can still have fun if conditions allow.. but you need to understand and respect the rules of the road..
I know that sounds like something an old fart would say.. but todays traffic conditions are very different than they used to be.. Take it to the track... best advice yet..
OK OK I get it. Just because I have a toy doesn't mean I get to act like a kid. I'll drive responsibly and safely and within limits. This is just me being so super excited about actually having my dream car - after decades of wishing. And not really believing I could actually do it.
One of your best friends is your speed control. On the highway these cars are so smooth and powerful you can slowly get highway creep and before you can say "what's that cop doing with his blue lights on", you'll be doing 90+.
V1 is what I use, but I rarely go more that 10 over the SL. I just like to know where they are. Most good radar dectors have sufficient range to give you time to slow down without using your brakes, unless you're driving like a mad man. The big advantage to V1 is that you can determine the direction the radar is coming from!
The forum doesn't condon street racing. It puts you, your passenger, and the people around you at risk!!
The LEO's I talk with tell me they don't want to stop people. It's a hard environment to control. Generally we respect LEO's and the tuff job the perform daily keeping us safe.
Congratulations on your new ride, and welcome the the botherhood!
