Default MGW Shifter - Revised Unit Installed

I was recently able to have a few email conversations with George at MGW about the rattles I was experiencing with my MGW shifter that I installed in my 08 C6 several months ago. I am running the stock **** and wanted to keep it that way. I told George that I had tried every fix posted on this forum from silicone to foam to tape and nothing would stop the rattle. I thought I might need an oversize pivot ball as I know a few others have fixed their rattles in this manner.

What George decided he wanted to do was send me a Compete New Shifter Assembly built to his latest specs and also a pivot ball kit that contains both an undersize and an oversize ball. This was way more than I was expecting! All he asked for in return was that I send the old shifter back to him.

Success! The new shifter is rattle free and the buzz I always felt in the shift **** is completely gone. I did stuff a small piece of foam down into the ****, but I had this in there before. I left the pivot ball on that came on the shifter. Did not need to try the other pivot *****. With the latest design, shifting into 1st and also 5th is much easier than before. Ran it hard through the gears and all is perfect.

Thank you George for your Outstanding Customer Service!

This must be the new springless design. I have the older design and it is way to hard to get into 1st and 5th. I am going to install some lighter detent springs as I have read that will help.

Actually not sure what is involved with the latest design, but when I asked George if he could modify my existing shifter, that is when he said he would just send me a new one. For sure is a big improvement going into 1st and 5th.

I hope George will see this post and maybe share with us all what the latest design actually is.

When exactly did you buy that original shifter from MGW? Not sure exactly the recent change history.

I believe it was around the March/April time frame of this year.

Default Just put in my order

I just ordered my shifter this morning and am looking forward to getting it (not so much the installation, but from what I have read it's only the console that's a PITA). Glad to know I will (hopefully) be getting the newer version! And also good to know customer service excels!

Everyone has a little fear the first time they take that center console out, but it is very easy. This was the 4th or 5th time now that I have had it out and it only took maybe 15 minutes this time. It really is simple.

One thing about George and MGW, they will back their products unlike most others. They want a perfect product for their customers and will go out of the way to produce it. I purchased from MGW many times when I had my Mustang Cobra, and MGW was fantastic as far as their products and customer support.

Coming out of an 05 manual, the 08 seems shorter and much better. How is this MGW better then the stock short throw shifter?

After you experience the MGW shifter, you will never call the stock one a short throw ever again. Shifts are also much more positive. If you have ever missed the 3rd gear shift under hard acceleration, it can be pretty frustrating. That does not happen with the MGW.

There have been non-believers, but everyone that has installed one are glad they did.
