Default Rotors

Anyone else have a rust problem witht their rotors? As soon as I drive my car after washing it I get an awful lot of rust all over the inside of the wheels and it's driving me nuts. I want to change the rotors, what do you folks recommend? Any special manufacturer? I just ordered zinc plated rotors for my 2 TBSS's. Maybe thats the way to go on the Vette too? It's got the z51 package. Thanks.

Yes, I get the same thing. But then again what do you want for $55,000 - $65,000? Rotors that won't rust after owning the car with only a 1,000 miles on it? Come on, you're asking for a lot here. As far as replacing them with something that don't rust and crap our nice wheels all up with rust and brake dust maybe we should look to Honda, Nissan, Toyota, etc.

umm every single METAL rotor will rust unless they are made from some composit material...

Solution dont let it sit after a car wash so it doesnt accumulate rust

Simple fix.

DO NOT WASH!

Dry clean only.

Something not right about this reply. This happens to all makes. Including BMW, Benz, and the ugly little rice buckets of death.

I guess mine do not rust after the wash because they get wiped down with a micro-fiber towel. If this wasn't done, then they might show rust, I'm not really sure. I replaced the OEM rotors with Baer EradiSpeed plus 2 rotors which have a zinc-coated surface, but I think the OEM are coated also. Anyway, I have never seen rust on mine... and I live a few hundred feet from the Pacific Ocean.

Hey Al. Funny. Think i'm going to get a set of zinc coated rotors. Just got to find a good manufacturer. Not looking to spend a fortune. The originals brakes work just fine. I'm looking for something sorta stock.

I don't wash the wheels! just wipe them with a clean rag, then a quick wax on the chrome.

I had the same problem until I too put on a set of Eradi Speed Plus 2 rotors and now no rust. Plus they look 100 times better.

You can zinc plate the Z51 (or any rotor except carbon ceramic )... here are my C6 rotors zinc (bright finish...since you can also get black zinc) plated>>

And here are rotors I just got back for my other Vette... 1990 ZR-1

I am using a plater in Georgia...if interested in name etc let me know

I got the baer eradispeed zinc coated rotors also. The Zinc coating protects everything that is not a friction surface. Mine too will start to rust after each wash but as part of the wash routine I drive it around the block once to clean things up.

Yes, and the dust mentioned is a result of the drilled rotors, not any inferiority with the Chevy brand.

I painted my rotors with high temp engine enamel to solve the problem.

With Jeff, I had my wheels powder coated brake dust brown, so the more I drive it the better they look........

The first time you drive it and hit the brakes--VOILA-- the rust disappears. Works for me.

Odd. My 08 base rotors have some sort of grey coating and no rust even after washing (brake surface excepted).
