Default Help, broken flexplate

I have a 06 c6 a6, with less that 10k miles, with 2 of the 3mounting tabs to the torque converter broken off the flexplate. The car has headers, a tune, cold air intake, but otherwise totaly stock. I was on a trip with the wife and started hearing a strange metalic rateling sound. When i got home i put it on a friends lift, traced the sound to the bellhousing, removed the inspection plate and saw the carnage. The car is never abused, there is as much tread on the rear tires as the front (original tires). Is there a buliten on this? What caused this? Has anyone heard of this before? Any input would be helpful, john

No telling what the cause is for this failure. Could be just bad parts. Could be that the dealer and/or GM will maintain that it was the headers and the tune that caused the failure. Sounds like you were very lucky that the failure didn't have worse consequences 'cause I suspect it could have just blown up at high speed on the highway.

You can try to get them to warranty the parts and repair but even if you end up paying I think you should count your blessings that you and your wife even survived what could have been a much nastier failure "mode".

good luck

Why?? i can give an educated guess and say the bolts where "OVERTIGHTNED" at some point in time (if they broke). Have seen it before where the bolts are too tight and break off, if they where too loose then they might come out to. its gotta be under warranty either way.
They might say its do to you but thats BS on an auto tranny. The convertor connects to the trans "via" fluid coupling. In other words "NO" direct connection except the trans fluid itself.
Taking this into consideration on take off the convertor is just off stall and moving the trans. Its not common to say there is alot of "stress" on the convertor/flywheel connection until it fully engages. good luck
