Fixing Bent Frame Question
As I mentioned in my last post, I had an accident in my 08 convertible (with 3000 miles) last week.
When the body shop put the car up on the laser rack to measure the frame, it was bent up 31mm and 16mm to the right in the front. The body shop says they can fix it like new, but I was wanting to get other enthusiest opinions on this before I give them the "go-ahead" with the repairs. The current overall estimate to fix the car is about $11,000.
I am exxxtreeeemmmmmeeeely picky, as most of us are.
Metric measurements always tend to make things appear to be more than they really are. 31mm is less than 1.25 inches and 16mm is less than 5/8 of an inch. So I think a reputable frame-straightening/body shop should be able to return your car's frame to original specs.
But what about suspension components? How badly are they mangled?
Being "picky", you might feel better if you can get 3 independent estimates. Best wishes for a satisfactory outcome!
The frame is off by very little, it can be straightened no problem. Just make sure to let them know you will look VERY CLOSE at the car after they fix it. Those body lines have to look perfect or you wont take delivery !!!!!
They'll have to get it almost perfect just to get the body panels to fit right. The suspension geometry will need to be scrutinized as well to maintain the proper tracking and handling.
