Default Taillight screws

Anybody know what type and size screw holds in the taillight?
I just lost one coming home from work, and want to know what to ask for at Home Despot when I can get there.

It is a 3/4 inch long T-15 torx head sheet metal screw.

Ok, so you told him the length and wrench size that fits the head. Nothing here is the screw size. If I was home, I would measure it for you, but what is listed is not the diameter of the screw, which is what you need to know.

Exactly, so just take one of the others out and bring it with you. You will not be able to find the same screw at Home Depot....but you may be able to get the same size screw with a regular philips head on it. To get the torx head, you must go to the dealer or possibly an auto parts store.

Last time I checked, you couldn't buy a single screw from Chevy, you have to buy the whole set for over $20.

Every dealer I have ever used has lots of loose fasteners laying around for their service department to use ... assuming they are the least bit interested in customer service, they will find a single screw for a customer (and hopefully not even charge for it).

Auto parts store is your best chance. NAPA is the best I have found for this kind of hardware. As suggested above, take one of the screws from the other TL with you.

any auto parts store or hardware store. (Ace, lowes, home depot) i'm sure if you drove the vette to the service bay and asked someone "excuse me sir, do you have one of these?" he may pull open a drawer and just give you one... no way in heck i'd talk to a service advisor, drop my car off, leave it there for 5 hours for a screw

I can't get past wondering how you lost one of these on your way home from work. They don't normally have a habit of backing out on their own, especially that kind of application. If you know it happened on the way home from work, there must be a good story that goes along with this you should share with the rest of us.

Maybe it's a Northern Virginia thing -- I lost one of mine the same way. More than a bit surprised when I arrived home one night and found one of the taillights dangling (!) from its wires behind the car. Got lucky -- no paint damage to the rear fascia.

I couldn't find the screw at any of the local dealers, so I used a fairly closely-matching non-factory screw, and blue Loctited the sucker in place.

I can understand how it can happen - if you tighten the screw down too much you can crack the tab that hold the lens assembly, so it was probably left a little loose.

Same thing that happened here, and the acrylic tab on the lamp isn't broken or cracked.

Good point. I want to hear Mark's alibi on where he was yesterday. How close is Fairfax to Alexandria?

The best place to find hardware like screws, nuts, bolts is Ace. They have a large selection.
