Default Navigation System Fixed – Yippie!!

After waiting a week for a new Nav/Radio unit for my two month old 2009 Vette, the part finally arrived. The dealer did a terrific job diagnosing the problem (trouble reading the disc), ordering a new unit, and getting it installed promptly ---- even with the current GM parts restriction. Still waiting for the new windshield replacement (hit by a rock on the highway), but at least half the battle is over. Life is good.

ppllleeeease tell me more. i have felt that there is no way that my nav is supposed to be as slow as it is. its barely usable.
all button pushes are 20-30 seconds delayed. same with you previously?

This is how it went down. Just a week or two after taking delivery of the car, I noticed my Nav unit would get spastic with me. First thing in the morning, at first start-up, the Nav unit would never read the disc properly and these messages came up:

Insert MAP DVD
MAP DVD read error
Disc inserted is not a MAP DVD

This would go on for about 15-30 minutes and generally the system would finally kick in and I could plot a trip. Quite often, the trip would be interrupted by those three messages again and the navigation system would just shut down. This really irritated me as I would need to pull out my trusty Garmin and complete the trip that way. I had to leave the car at the dealer overnight so they could start it first thing in the morning and see this for themselves. Thank God it did it and I was there to watch it fumble through its messages right before the service technician. The dealer quickly ordered a new unit and had it installed today. I love my Garmin and hope that the problem with the car Nav unit is resolved. After all, I did pay for the option and would hope that it would function just as well as my plug in unit. Hope that helps but let me know if you have additional questions.

hmmm.. mine has shown that error message a few times but that isn't the primary issue for me. it seems I have the same problem but it presents itself different. mine, cold or not, is just intensely laggy. like i said, any button push takes 20-30 seconds to register. entering an address for navigation takes around 20 minutes for me! regardless, you have inspired me to take it to the dealer (Lord protect my car) lol.

thanks for the info!

Oh yea, I forgot to mention your issue --- sorry. My unit also demonstrated delayed responses to input. On occasion, it would freeze after pressing a button and take a while for it to respond. I don’t know why, but other Corvette and Cadillac owners seem to have quirks in their systems to the extent that it can be very frustrating at times. You know you’re approaching your tolerance level when you find yourself saying such things as “Oh, bite me!” in response to various cryptic messages coming from your Nav unit. Then out comes the Garmin.

That's just not right. If there is any pause in mine, it's very slight. I'd have it checked out.

Out of curiousity. How much for that window? I was almost afraid to ask.

I'm having the EXACT same issue in my '08 Z. Dealer has new unit ordered.

My '05 Nav worked perfectly for the 3 years I owned it.

First you need to go OEM for the windshield or you will have problems with the HUD. To say how much it costs is difficult because each insurance company has a contract with their particular installer. My company supposedly pays $230.00 for a windshield which probably costs upwards of $1200.00. Your dealer may be able to tell you how much the windshields cost, but that's all that I've been told. Good question though.
