Forgive me if this has been covered in all the other "Doom" threads and I know that related subjects have been beat to death!
But if GM would stop making the Corvette all together or even as we know them today, wouldn't the value of all our C6's go up? It would at the very least help them hold there value, don't you think?
I didn't buy my car for an investment but it would be nice for it to hold its value.
Oldsmobiles and Plymouths plummeted when those brands were axed. Corvette is different. If the big 3 or even GM is killed though you will see prices go up for everything that involves a car (less supply, more demand).
Olds & Plymouth are two really good examples of what needs to happen. Pay attention to the business case and the market...get rid of the excess models, divisions, locations, etc. that we as consumers have been supporting in the form of higher-priced cars, parts & services.
...Corvette is different. A great iconic car that is a class-leader, and a testbed of tech and engineering for GM. Too much quality and history to go away.
If the Corvette went out of production the value of these cars would go nowhere but up. Still plenty of parts out there. I don't think it will ever happen.
If GM halts the vette, the prices on the current models will hold steady. Look at what happened to the Ls2 GTO's, They quit making them and they still go for roughly the same they did last year around this time.
Genuine parts prices will go up.
Aftermarket parts manufacturers will come in and satisfy the demand however.
I try not to worry about expletive deleted that has a slim chance of happening, and even if it does happen, and even if it did happen, the impact is as likely to have as much a positive effect as a negative one. So many other things in the here-and-now to focus on. Honda, Toyota, Damlier and many others are also losing money, you know.
