I recently purchased an '07 Z06. Upon arrival at the dealer, which was 400 miles away, I came to find out that they only had one key fob and it was the #2 fob.
I have a #1 fob from a different '07. My goal is to mate this #1 FOB to the #1 setting in the Z06.
I have attempted the quick learn process as documented in the manual. I have also attempted the quick version of the "working" solutions listed in the threads below, however I am still unable to get the DIC to prompt me for a reprogram.
If anyone has any insight, I would greatly appreciate it!
Questions:
Is it possible to program / add a fob #1 if you only have a valid working #2? If so, what could I possible be doing wrong or not thinking about?
Based on the research below, a total relearn should do the trick. Has anyone accomplished this SUCCESSFULLY on their own with the use of a Tech II or scan tool?
Note that in order to program any fob as fob #1, you must use the procedure in the post above by FACADE-6, which will also require you to reprogram fob #2, also included in the above procedure.
Also, remember that the number imprinted on any fob is not permanent. The number of each fob, as recognized by the car, is its position in the programming sequence that Facade went through above. The first fob in the slot during that procedure WILL BE number 1. The second will be number 2. This is regardless of what number is printed on the fob. The number on each fob only tells you what order the two fobs were originally programmed in at the factory. All fobs are electrically identical under the shell and can be programmed to number 1,2,3 or 4.
PS to Facade: I have had the long procedure time out many times.....got busy and forgot etc. Its not a problem, the procedure can just be started over again with the key in the trunk lock. I haven't tried to move the car though...it may be that it will not recognize ANY fobs at that point. Next time I will try and see if perhaps the old fobs will still be recognized...I just don't know what state the system is in at that point. But I have started over and everything is fine.
