I bought mine from Maxie Price in 05 and the invoice had $500 printed on it. When they thought the deal was done I told them I would not pay it and would go elsewhere. They checked with Mr Price and the $500 was removed.
It runs from $0 to whatever they think they can squeeze out of you. It's a completely trumped up charge. You should only have to pay for tax title and license that your State DMV would charge you if you walked into one of the local offices to register your new car.
ZERO! Doc fees are nothing more than extra dealer profit. I have never paid any "doc fees" on any car I have ever purchased. It burns me up to be asked to pay an additional fee for something that the dealer should be providing as a usual cost of doing business. Just my opinion.
I just bought a new vette from MacCulkin and they charged no doc fees. I paid what was quoted on the car with no surprises. They (Tommy Jr.) were great to deal with I would not buy another vette or chev cad etc. without calling tommy

Mine is on the way (third one from MacMulkin) zero doc fees.
That's exactly what McMulkin charged me and they mailed me paperwork back and forth overnight. Class dealership!
My son paid $35 doc fees for his Honda Civic SI in Iowa. The local Honda dealer here in the Phoenix area brag that they have the LOWEST Doc fees at $199, complete rip-off!!!
As others have said doc fees are bs ... it is not unusual though to see them - most dealers do this ... if you get a GREAT deal and the doc fees are small like 75 no big whoop .... but this whole 300-500 fee is BS ... One of the sales guys on this forum tried to tell us it was ok as he was "being up front about their dealers 500 dollar fees" .... I think it is a smarmy way of quoting you one price then slapping you with hidden fees to make the deal seem better ....
There are dealers out there that don't do this crap - buy from THEM ...
Plus you get free temp plates to drive the car home. Super straight arrow at MacMulkin. The price they quote (which is great) is the exact price you pay - not one penny extra. As others have noted any extra you pay is all dealer profit.

I'm glad to see thaat most everyone feels the same way about this as I do.
I got 8 quotes back in July when I was preparing to buy. The doc fees ranged from $190 to $695. The $695 (Maxie Price) was by far the highest, HOWEVER, Rick Daniel's quote was less than anyone else, with the $695 included.
Given the market today, I wouldn't pay a dime for doc fees. Even in a good market you can find many dealers with none. Its a buyers' market, offer a reasonable deal or walk.
