Why is it so hard for some of these vendors to ship to our military at an APO address? Some vendors just flat out refuse and it isn't anymore difficult or expensive then shipping an ordinary package, you just have to use USPS. Don't get me wrong I have had some vendors drop a package off at the Post Office on thier way home for me. Am I missing something here?
As a vendor (not this forum) I can think of a couple reasons. Some vendors do not do biz with UPS (I don't) and/or have an exclusive contract with another carrier, example: FedEx. Another possibility may be the vendor has a prejudice (possibly unfounded) or previous bad experience shipping to APO addresses due to accountability (actual client cannot sign for merchandise.) I'm not saying these reasons are valid from your point of view, just that they are possible answers to your question.
But it really isn't that difficult you just have to use the United States Postal Service who will deliver the package to NY or NJ (can't remember which) then the military takes it from there for free. I see some vendors drastically raise thier rates for APO packages.

Actually, very few vendors will use USPS for large/expensive products. No real-time tracking and insurance companies may not support them. Recent improvements are helping the USPS to become more competitive however.
As mentioned above, many companies cut a deal with one carrier for exclusive rights in exchange for lower rates, so your argument is actually with the carriers to why they will not deliver to you and not with the vendors. Military ROI is probably low for many product categories so your scenario may not even be considered.

This is not so. USPS rules and regs do not change under the military mail system. I must sign for a package in Germany or Afghanistan no different than if I was home.

No, not from my end. The point is, or was 4 years ago when I got stuck with a "lost" shipment, when the military takes it, it's delivered. Then when the actual customer cancels payment saying they didn't get it, there's too much paper work to try and find out where it went to. They're reasons why some carriers and insurance companies won't cover these shipments.
There are services that are available even to APO addresses such as insurance, certified and return receipts. A return receipt has to have someone sign for it and the receipt gets mailed back to the vendor showing it had arrived.
Us military folks miss out on a lot of good sales and pricing because some vendors won't ship APO. I am in that situation with a few vendors on this forum.
Come on vendors support your military and give us a shot at some of those great prices.
