Hey guys it's me again with yet another probably stoopid question. I was at a light with my wife and we were in sort of a bad part of town and I thought "What if I got car jacked?" since I always have the top off. Someone could easily walk up and have easy access to myself or my wife if she's driving. Then I got to thinking about the FOB. I know the car will continue to run when I exit and shut the doors and walk some distance away, but wouldn't it eventually die without the FOB if someone were to steal it while it was running after they got a certain distance away. I started to joke with my wife saying "wouldn't it just suck to be them, they would be all proud that they stole a "vette" then all of the sudden the car dies! I did a search and couldn't find this specific answer among the tons of FOB threads. I'm sure one of you guys will spit out the answer even before I can finish typing
Nope, it will continue to run for them just fine for as long as they drive it....until they turn it off........how far can they drive and what damage can they do on one tank of gas???

...if they are smart bad guys, they would just leave the engine running when the fill-up and keep going.

Do you really expect the engine to die if you're in 70 MPH traffic on the freeway and the fob battery dies? Same thing.
And it's not a FOB, it's a fob, since it's not an abbreviation for anything.
As others have stated it will keep on running until they shut it down or if you have onstar you can call them report the car stolen and I believe they can shut it down.
If they knew anything about Vettes, they could just demand the keys but my guess would be that they would be perfectly happy just not shutting it off until they were done with it.
If you've ever forgotten something in the house, gotten out of the car with it still running to go get it, you'll notice it keeps running. I didn't give it much thought but I guess you don't want it to die if the fob fails while you are driving down an interstate (like JimTN said).
Now, I'm curious how the fob communicates with the car. Does it send out a constant signal or just send a signal when requested? I'm guessing it's a constant signal since the doors lock when you walk away. Seems like a constant signal would be hard on the fob battery though.

No constant signal.
