Default question, please read

Lately ive noticed my oil pressure gauge going higher than usual, especially when the car is cold, on cold days. It will surge to 60 psi and even to 80 psi sometimes. The surging is consistent with RPM's. At idle, pressure is a little under 40psi. Im using royal purple 5-30 and a K&n oil filter. Once the car warms up the pressure stays around 40 PSI and does not surge anywhere past 60psi even when i hit the higher revs.

I checked the oil level and its within the crosshatch area.

Is this oil pressure surging normal or does my car have a problem ? (bad oil ? clogged oil filter ? )

don't think it's anything to worry about. even 5w-30 gets a little thicker with cooler weather (try Minnesota in the winter if you want really thick oil!). thicker oil means higher pressure. as it warms, it thins.

Normal, the colder the oil the higher the initial pressure.

If you let the car warm up more before you drive it you wont notice the surge. I let mine warm up for about 6 mins before I drive it (its modded as well) and I dont get oil press. surges. But it is normal.

Sometimes here in San Diego the temps can plummet as low at 60°. I feel your pain bro...

The oil is more viscous at lower temps, shows higher pressure until the oil gets warmer.

Normal.

Suggestion, do not go WOT until you are at operating temperature. I usually keep mine under 2500RPM (or lower) until that time. Depending on the temperature outside, it could take up to 10-15 minutes.

...Most here say to let your oil temps get to at least 160 degrees before going WOT, and you will have higher PSI until then with colder oil -- perfectly normal............Lots of past posts on the subject or oil temps and pressure........

Speaking of gauge problems, Ive noticed that one of the big gauges in the middle moves every time you push the gas peddle.... weird!!!
