Just today somebody in our locker room before work said; when US automakers manufacture a good car they would buy one. Ignorance and denial are the largest problems with the car industry.
OK Wolfdogs, I'll bite.
Love yer posts but I just gotta ask, where did these stats come from? I don't deny they are true but...
I've bought my share of US cars in my life but the last 5-7 years, many of them have really sucked, quality-wise. The Toyotas didn't have anywhere near these problems. In that time I have had a 96 Taurus, 05 Explorer (timing chain, gas tank, rear axel, etc), a 05 Vette (flywheel, new radio, etc) , a 03 Chev truck, major brake work) , and a brand new 08 Chrysler Sebring w/leaky retractible hardtop. The list of work that has been done to this lot in the last 7 years is very long and pricey.
In the meantime I have also had a 96 Geo Prism (Toy Corolla), 94 & 07(Hybrid) Toyota Camrys, 04 Toy Rav4. The 94 Camry had a little oil leak and slipped a bit @ 135k mi. and that is it. What can I say?
I think it is pretty obvious that Detroit can build a market leading vehicle these days, it is amazing how far they have come since the horrors of the 80's and 90's. What is so troubling is how they can manage to run the largest companies in the world totally in to the ground.
Those stats are great, but it is absurd that a CEO is in front of congress begging for my money and on top of that actually taking business advice from congress!?! Pathetic. What have we come to? Now I don't care what they make - my Corvette dream has been put on hold until they get it together. I hope they can wake up soon...

Guess who was the biggest in the world last year??GM!!Big EFFEN DEAL!That crap doesn't sell cars AND MAKE MONEY!!PERCEPTION is the thing that sells cars and the perception of the BIG 3 is horrible!Their fault.PERIOD.The only fact that matters is they ignored all that was going on over years and years to get themselves in this situation. Now they need a "CZAR" to oversee their business!!Ridiculous!
As much as I hate this, I have to agree. Perception is everything and right now the people's perception of the big 3 is pretty bad, although I do believe it is improving, strictly quality wise.
The big 3 need to do 2 things:
1- Advertize these facts to the public. If you aren't telling me you sell good quality cars, why would I even pay attention to you.
2- ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK....the imports! Bring out their dirty laundry and let people smell it. Again, if you (big 3) don't tell me about Toyota, Honda and Nissan's problems, then I will never hear about them....because they are certainly not going to publicize that.
Perception is everything, and people's perception of the big 3 is still that of the 80s and 90s, because the big 3 haven't done squat to change that.
