how do you get an auto 2008 vette into neutral with a dead battery, I mean totally dead

I do not think that you can, the battery needs to be charged a little before it can be released.

got it into neutral, but I think its more serious than a battery, sounds like the starter it just clicks

install a new one and see what happens

Sounds like a dead or low battery. Try charging it or buy a new one.

check your grounds, loose ground will sometimes do this.

My '07 A6 vert developed a snarled linkage at about 14k miles. I could move the shifter between Neutral and Drive, but not into Park so the car could not shut down electrically. Once the battery was discharged not even a 10A charger could bring it back to life.

It's probably time to call GM Roadside Assistance for a free tilt/flatbed trip to your dealership for warranty repairs.

And it's not too early to start thinking about replacing the OEM battery with one that can withstand total discharging (namely an Optima Yellow Top).
