Default Z06 mud guard install on C6 STD. COUPE!

I am going to share my install with the forum and hope it helps others.I tried the 3m tape that has been recomended and no luck. I don't know if the tape was old or a bad batch or what?
1. After removing the webbing and fasteners from the back side of the mud guards.
2. I then took the two bolts out of the bottom rear facia.
3. Then I installed the mud guard and re installed the bottom bolts.
4. I then meausred 15 1/2 inches up from the bottom of the mud guard using a tape measure, marked the spot.
5. Next I measured in about a 1/2 to 3/4 inch from the inside edge of the mud guard.
6. Next I marked the spot with an awl and tapped it with a hammer hard enough to leave a mark, while a freind held the mud guard tight to the fcender.
7. I drilled a 5/64 hole through the mud guard and fender.
8. I then installed a black body bolt M4.2-1.41x20. I bought the bolts at Lowes, but any good hardware stoe should have them, they match the G.M. bolts on the inner fender, only smaller.
8. I then put a small bead of Liquid Nails clear part#LN-275 on the top 1 inch of the mud and pressed it tight to the fender and clamped it with a small clamp from the inside.
9. I cleaned the excess glue off with some laqoer thinner.
10. I let them set overnight and they look perfect, I did clen a little more glue off, and went into the seam with a small utility knife to clean a little glue out.
I hope this works for all who want to try it.I do not recomend the tape method, in my opinion the tape will not hold, after two tries I gave up on it. good luck!

Good thread... I too tried the Z06 splash guards with the adhesive tape and they fell off the car the following day. Your install sounds much better... I went with Gene's OEM accessory splash guards after that experience...

I am happy with the fit and finish after 3 try's. I also had the left one fall off with the tape after the second install. That is when I knew there had to be a better way. The guards fit better now than they do on a Z06! GIVE MY METHOD A TRY AND YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!

I do not have any pics at this time, but I will try to get someone to take some for me. We had a cold snap here over the weekend no problems, they are still where I put them. I am very picky about my cars and I would not recomend this approach if it was not a perfect fit.

I did the ZO6 rears on my car a few years ago and they fit the fender perfectly. The problem is that they are too wide in the center and for my taste, stick out too much beyond the tire. When you look down the side of the car they "bulge" out too much.

I much prefer the new GM guards designed specifically for the standard C6

I know they are hard to see, and that's a good thing!

You have a nice job of installing them. I like the ZO6 style, but everuone to his own. I do agree however that they do bulge a liitle to much in the middle.

I agree I like the Z06 guards, they really look nice from behind. As far as drilling goes it is a very small drill and if anyone ever wanted to remove them it would be an easy fix. Make sure you have a helper to push the middle of the mud guard in against the fender when you drill. Just be very careful and double and triple check before you drill.

I like the Z06 ones alot better especially if you have a bit wider tire than the stock.

Now, the Z06 guards that appis sells, are they any different than the ones here on the white vette ?
To me, the way Appis reads is, it's a direct bolt on or attachment to the fender, and if that's the case is it alredly modified by them ?

I am not familiar with the ones from appis , but the G.M. ones are very easy to modify with a utility knife. No hole for the screw but start that with an awl or punch and you are all set.
