10 days ago marked the 1 yr anniversary of my picking up my car from the Museum. As I have heard nothing from ONSTAR, I am wondering what their typical approach is for this stuff. I have read threads where some have commented that ONSTAR interrupted their driving trying to solicite renewal, but I have not experienced this ... nor have I received any phone calls (that I am aware of), email notifications, or USPS inquiries. Am I safe in assuming that no news is good news and that my ONSTAR has been cancelled since they didn't make any overt attempt to contact me, or would this be a bit naive on my part. There is obviously no credit card number on my account as the first year was free, and I never opted to take advantage of any of their 'other' options. Thoughts? Comments? Personal experience? tks
Don't worry, ON* will be contacting you pretty soon as they are probably off for the Christmas holidays. It is good that you haven't given them C.C. information and I would suggest that you don't.
you probably will receive phone calls and mail correspondance to try to renew. I did and did not renew and my onstar still worked for 3 months past the expiry.
Received 2 phone calls and 3 mails regarding renewal.
I know it seems somewhat inconsistent with their business practices not to "hound" someone (I'll not use the words 'a customer' here) ... just looking for piece of mind that their not going to try to charge me at some overpriced rate because no contact was attempted/made and therefore they think I'm still a customer.
Make sure you didn't inadvertently give them a card number - for example, did you buy minutes for your phone? They are bad about using any excuse to have a card on file. Otherwise, they will be around, just give them time.
I called them and complained about a service issue and told them I was cancelling. They dropped the annual fee to $149 and rolled my minutes over so I relented. Next month I got two charges on my card - one for the original renewal at $199 and one for the $149 deal. I called and was assured the first charge would be credited. 30 days later, still no credit so I called again only to find out it took them 30 days to post the credit Needless to say, I removed all card data from their records and will not be renewing down the road.
