It's not that complicated. Just jack up the 2005 nameplate and install a 2009 Corvette underneath it.
That would probably be easier and cheaper than attempting a retrofit.

Actually, several do have a very good idea of what is involved. The VCIM is completely different for 2009. In case you weren't aware, the VCIM (vehicle communication interface module) is the primary interface for Onstar. It is a different physical size, it is located in a completely different location on the car and the harness for it is different. Additionally, the software communication for the VCIM is different. All 2009 radios have received firmware updates to accommodate the communication to the new VCIM. There is no upgrade path for pre-2009 radios to communicate with the VCIM. So, you need a new head unit. You need a new VCIM. You need a new harness. You need a new steering wheel harness and you need the controls.
I don't know what other software has changed so I don't know what the probability of success would be putting a 2009 head unit and a 2009 VCIM in the car. I have been told repeatedly by several involved with the development of the new system that a retrofit is not possible.
well I did not know it was called a VCIM but I did know it was there. right under my passenger seat in my z06. for others it is in the back passenger side well. Just being in a different location mean nothing though. if it is simlar size I could just put the new module righ in the same loaction or better yet I could just move the module up to the new location since it is really a better one IMO. People do this on z06's to run C6 seats. they usually put the VCIM in the same location as the 2009 model.
the real issue is know what has changed in the pinout of the VCIM.
I mean if one had an 09 nav unit, an 09 VCIM, and the steering wheel controls are all the hanness mods self contained in that circuit or are there other changes. If all the new circuitry is between those pieces of electronics then it is just a wiring harness mod.
And this is why I made the statement about not fully knowing the extent of the change. you may know what components are involed but I have not seen anyone post any information that would make it completely incompatiple but I have not seen any wiring diagrams to show where the new components interface. IE the steering wheel controls and VCIM pinouts.
Although I will say that if you could not get ahold of the firmware update to the nav unit this does not seem worth it. IF it is truely just a firware upgrade to the nav unit it should be upgradable but that does not mean they would put it out.
If it were new vcim and a day of wiring I would do it as opposed to a parrot or something like that.
Just a quick note I have an 05 with nav and it will play MP3's. 05 &06 both will do this
2006 radios could play MP3's from the factory. 2005 units could not, but there is a widely-available software upgrade that enables mp3's on 2005 radios too. I think the patch has also been posted here on the forum.

Only 2005's with the firmware upgrade can play MP3's (no big deal as MP3's should be avoided anyway). The firmware update also corrected an FM reception issue.
