Excellent job and great write up! I am going to do this to my C5.
And if you have to ask WHY, then you will not really understand the answer to that question anyway.

What about the voltage drop?

Last time I had a car with the battery at the other it was a PITA because the voltage drop.

Lot's of issues that were a pain to resolve.

2 Questions:

* Do you have to run a negative all the way to the block or just connect it to the frame closest to the batterys new location in the trunk.
* The moroso kit says it's 2 gauge wire although "cencalc" posted this kit:
Moroso battery cable kit
http://www.jegs.com/i/Moroso/710/74005/10002/-1
Is 2 gauge the appropriate cable to use, or 1 gauge?

1. just connect it to the frame closest to the batterys new location in the trunk. just make sure you run a minimum of a 2 gauge wire from engine block to the front frame rail just like to original setup... the engine block also needs to be grounded I noticed when i did this project our vettes have lack of grounds not a bad idea to run grounds on both sides of the engine

2. 2 gauge is more than enough, but it does not hurt to run a 1 gauge might be 1-2 lb heavier

good write up thanks, as for why . I did it for all the reasons listed and I needed the space up front for my methanol tank.

CENCAL,

Nice post. I just bought an optima d34 to sit in the pass. compartment. Fits nice. Just about to order the cables.

Blower adds an extra 60 lbs over the front end, so it will be nice to relocate the battery weight off the front end & over the rear wheels. I'm gonna use 1 gauge welding cable.

QUESTION: HOW MUCH RED & BLACK CABLE DO I NEED TO ORDER? The Neg will go to the rear frame near the bat. I know I need to add the ground strap from the engine to the frame also.

Nice work and write up. Its a nice way to even out a bit of the weight distribution to the rear but I think I'll loose 12.5LBS by going to my gym more often and cutting back on my Pork chops and KFC.

I have one question, I had a thought of doing it to. But I was concerned about ventilation, and possible fumes.

It does make it easier if yo have a dead battery, no need to climb in, just pop the back.

You need a min of 14ft of possitive cable and for the negative cable it all depends how many ground straps your going to run and were you run them thru

Great writeup and pics.

My car is in the shop now getting a Vortech installed. This is something Im going to do.
This also allows for a methenol bottle to be mounted in place of the battery. Safer that the trunk location and you can still use your wiper bottle as the factory intended. THATS WHY!

cencalC6, please post a pick of your car in the favorite C6 thread and put my name on it!

I love the way your car looks and I'm trying to talk myself into buying some D2 VS1 wheels because of the way yours looks. I love the Mesh 8's, but too many issues with the company!

I am really surprised that nobody else has chimed in about the safety aspects of these install instructions. If you decide to do this, whatever you do, properly fuse the battery at the back of the car within 12 inches. You don't want to get in an accident or have the battery cable short out without having some protection. This could get ugly.
