I just noticed this evening that the "Option" button does not light up while the other buttons do. The button operates just fine, however. What creates the light for these buttons and is there a way to replace it myself?
Both the info from the service manual and the link to the part were for an '07. I wouldn't think there was much change from '06 to '07 as far as these parts are concerned though.
One nice bennefit you get from ordering parts from GM Parts House is that if you include your VIN with the order, Gene will verify the parts you're ordering are the appropriate ones for it. And that includes any upgrades from the part numbers shown in the catalogs.

Yea.....Just dont ask for a part number if theres not a buck to be made....
Thanks for the link. I'll have to first check how easy it is (or not) to remove these buttons. Strange that someone else would have this problem...mine is an '05, but the catalog shows 05-08.

Here is a video of how to remove the gauge bezel to get to the button and harness.

You're welcome.

You probably could depending on how the main case is put together. It's just not what GM recommends for the dealers due to the 'time is money' mentality of today's service practices.
Some of us owners have time for a DIY approach to try and repair the individual pieces in a module like this to minimize costs whereas a service department is more interested in having us buy an entire assembly that they'll profit from and spend 10 minutes replacing it and charging us for the service time to make even more profit.
