With the standard size wheels, you're best off staying with the standard size tires: 245/40-18 front and 285/35-19 rear.
You really won't be able to fit wider tires on those rims and still maintain the same outside diameter within an acceptable margin. If you want wider tires, you should get wider wheels: 9.5-10" up front and 11" rear. Some may have even squeezed a bit wider wheels under stock fenders, but those are usually about the widest you normally see around here.

From: The Great Pacific Northwest...........I carry a gun cause a cops too heavy.
I am going with BF Goodrich KDWII 255F/295R ( one size wider than stock and same diameter as stock) and they have a UTQG 300 AAA rating. I'm using my stock wheels and these tires are approved for mounting on the stock wheels.

I'm thinking about going with them next time, any comments on how they've worked out for you?
I have stock size wheels coming (black ZR1's) and am going to run a 265 or 275 front with a 305/30 rear. they fit fine/
305/30 specifications call for rim widths from 10.5" to 11.5", with 11.0" being "ideal". The stock rear wheel width is 10.0". That doesn't sound like "they fit fine" to me.
thanks for your replies guys, im probably just going to go with 245/40-18 front and 285/35-19 rear for now... Until I can afford a wide body kit and some new wheels
Zymeurgy--I have played with alot of tire sizes and they will fit. Not even streatching them. Some people will say keep in the specs, and all that, but the specs are a guid line, some tire brands run wider than others as well. it not like putting a 315 on a 9.0or 9.5 rim or something which can be done and works, just look funny and is not the safest. search on here and there are people running that set up just fine. and it look fine.
In case some folks are not aware, Michelin just came out with tires, especially for the C6 Corvette:
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 ZP (RunFlat)
245/40ZR18 93Y - Front
285/35ZR19 99Y - Rear
There tires are new. They came out last October and the reviews are excellent. They are more quiet than the factory ones (by Goodyear).
Try to stay with the original sizes. It is better to stay with RunFlats. Also, personally I wouldn't put on my Corvette tires which don't have the ZR speed-rating.
We don't have these tires in Cyprus yet, but Tire Rack in the States sells them for cheaper than the first-equipment Goodyears.
