Battery Tender is the way to go. Most if not all have a 'lighter plug' adapter that makes hook-up a snap. Just plug it into the console outlet and you're done. No more issues!
Don't you think a lot of the battery issues start when the car is at the factory/dealer and not being started or driven. Once a battery is killed completely is is never ever right again. When I bought my new Corvettes I had the batteries changed to a SEARS Diehard Platinum to keep this dead battery syndrome from happening. They are guaranteed to hold a charge in the car for 2 years. No battery tender for me to burn my house down.
Burn your house down?? Don't you think there'd be this huge, product-safety, liability and recall issue if this were the case? Not one other person on CF has even hinted at such a thing. Care to explain?
Luck of luck, I was going to take my car out for a drive today, and my battery was dead also. I have an 05, and this is the 2nd time I've had a dead battery since I've got the car in Sept 05.
So, the battery is dead.
The door handles won't work obviously
I open the trunk, and unlock the door using the safety cord
I still can't open the door because the Windows are still in the indexed up position
So I had to crawl in through the trunk and unlatch the roof.
Then I was able to open the door
Then I could pop the hood
Now the car battery is attached to the charger, and hopefully I'll be able to drive it tomorrow.
Can you imagine if I had been outside, and it had been raining, The entire inside of the car would get soaked. I would not be a happy camper
Don't get me wrong, I love my corvette, but this is the kind of story that when you tell somebody, they say, that is why I don't by American.
Unfortunately I suspect that even going to mechanical door locks doesn't fix the problem, because the windows are still stuck in the up position so the doors can't be opened.
I understand the Z06 has the battery in the trunk. I actually think they should do that for our cars too. Because that way I could jump start or charge the car without having to get the hood open.
Sorry about the rant, but today, for the 2nd time in 3 years, my beloved corvette has disappointed me. Actually be most relationship standards, that not too bad I guess.
FWIW, I was told by my dealership that the doors COULD be safely opened even tho the windows would not index down. obviously, a small degree of caution needs to be exercised---don't yank the door with gorilla-style strength. carefully ease it out and past the weatherstripping.
I did it as I kept the service manager on the line; it worked fine.
I was at a car show and had the top down, it started to rain, so up goes the top. It stopped and down goes the top, later on that afternoon, I had the same experience, dead battery, could not jump it. Had it towed, the guy charged the battery all night. it started right up. I think I pressed the stop button and put it in asscesory mode by mistake and drained the battery. This happened last memorial day and no problem since. car is an 07,delivered December 06 and still have the original battery. I think my dead battery was operator error.
I recently bought an 05 Z51 with all the options. I have had the car since the 23rd of December (my chirstmas gift to myself) and played with it in the garage for not any loger than 10 minutes. I played with the power top, the stereo, navigation and bang, dead battery. A couple of other times the same thing has happend and it's a bit disappointing to feel like you need to carry jumper cables in the car. Not cool!
Tonight I was detailing it, had the doors opened for a while, had the hood open too and low and behold, dead battery!
A week ago I took it to the local auto parts store to have them check the charging system (to validate the gauge) and it was a strong 14.3 volts and there was no dead cells in the battery, which by the way is the original battery.
So here is my question... I am thinking I am just going to buy both a new battery and battery tender and be done with it but it makes me ponder whether or not there is a bigger issue with the electronics.
I'm going to chime in here as well. I have a 2007 that has had this same problem many times.
The nature of my job requires me to leave home for weeks to months at a time. Every time that i return i need to jump start my battery. The first time that it happened, my car was in a storage unit, and when i went to jump start the car nothing happened. It wouldn't turn over, or do anything. My first impulse was to get a new battery for it, but i was patient, and after about 15mins of being hooked up to another vehicle (and me not trying to start her, or using any accessories) she started up. I think i have it down to a science; 17 days is the max that my factory battery would sit, and then start back up. I have since purchased an aftermarket dry cell/spiral cell battery but I'm still only getting a little over 2 weeks with the sitting battery. I can honestly say that the best thing that i purchased was a battery tender. I think a lot of people have helped make the battery companies rich by purchasing new batteries for their C6's when in actuality all we needed was a battery tender.
2006 C6 only driven about once each week, and after 2 occasions of dead battery I went with a belt and suspenders - Battery Tender and Priority Start - No problems since, although with the Battery Tender I haven't had the Priority Start activate. Plugged the Tender into the power outlet in the console - with it there you can't forget to unhook it before taking off.
mine sit for 23 days battery dead don't know when it went dead just found it last night we have this problem all the time at the dealer i work at and never find problem with the car just need to drive them more or add a battery tender mine will have one this weekend
As everyone else has already said, get a battery tender. Nature of the C6. I use Deltran's Battery Tender Plus every time I park her, day or night, cold or hot, whether for two weeks or 12 hours.
last week in NJ 15 people were arrested for killing batteries in corvettes. All were charged with abuse to a corvette by slaying a battery from boredom. Their cars [vettes] were taken from them and they must now drive yugos. i think we all should heed the adage...a vette is a terrible thing to waste

Yes but here in the northwest I would rather jump my Vette for a dead battery then drive in the wet crap.
