Default Red Fluid Leak

Took my '06 vert out for a warm up today after a couple weeks of sitting in the garage. Noticed several drop spots of a clean, red fluid beneath the engine area.

Could this be from the Z-51 tranny cooler? It's a manual. Car ran fine with no warnings on DIC.

Possible - could also be Power Steering.

I'd check the power steering reservoir and lines first.

Power Steering Reservoir is good, and no drops since my return 2 hours ago. Everything I could see from the top and from the sides looks dry.

The red color sorta matches the coolant color, but it's full, too.

I hate to suggest, but anti-freeze can easily be confirmed by a tiny taste with tongue...sweet. Then complete mouth rinse. Don't swallow, although you can easily taste it with about 1/20 of one drop, which can't hurt anyway. PS fluid is not red, unless someone has put auto trans fluid in it (in a pinch its OK). I don't know what color the manual trans fluid is...perhaps others will chime in there. Coolant is orange, not really red. ATF is true red.

Dried up orange coolant can look much closer to red than orange on concrete, especially if it is concentrated.

If it tastes sweet, then it's anti-freeze. Power steering fluid is not red, but automatic trany fluid is.....manual trany fluid is brown (what I remember), hmmm; interesting.

The C5 used auto tranny fluid in both transmissions and I think the C6 does also.

With spring coming, I think we should setup the blind tatse test which was made famous by the Coke vs Pepsi ads of a decade ago.

Hmm, let me try that first one again...

the power steering fluid is a reddish brown. I know, my steering rack failed and had a huge leak. It started with a few drops here and there.

Everything looks dry you said. Is it in the front under the engine, or middle under the tranny, or rear under the rear-end?

It was in the front under the engine. I check again today, and the floor was dry. I can't see any new drops gathering on anything underneath, either. Guess I'll venture in to the dealer for a look on the rack.

You don't need to taste it. Coolant is watery, lubricants are oily. Rub it between your fingers.

my guess is the water pump,,,it can just seap out or go all together. If its just seaping out of the weap hole it may not be enough to show up low on the overflow tank yet.

I am a little nutty, i taste everything. Working on cars alot of years you get dripped on alot, so you start to know the difference between everything. i can taste the difference between 10/30 and 10/40,,,,,,,,,,,,just kidding there, lol

Oh that is how it is supposed to be. What ever it is leaking just live with it. Anyway that is what a lot of them say about the oil pan leak so I figure this is probably the same.
