I am new to the vette world, so I wanted to know if you guys have any tips on the cosmetic up keep of the C6. Any tricks, or particular products you guys recommend. Which wax and cleaner? Should I be particular about the cloth I use to wash and wax with? On all my vehicles till now I have used Pledge on the interior and tires. It gives it the shiny Armor All look with out being greasy, but I am not sure that would be the best for the vette. What is recommended for the leather and how do you and what do you use for keeping the engine compartment nice?
This stuff may already be covered somewhere in the forum, but I have been unable to find it.
I know these questions might seem like common sense to a lot of you guys, but I have never really had a nice car, so this will be the first time it has ever been an issue for me.
Go under Forum tab to General Corvette and then to Car Care Products. There is a ton of infomation in that area. As for me, I'm a Zaino freak. Happy reading!
Yep....lots of info out there on this topic. I've been a big fan of P21 products, originally for my BMW, but also on the Vette. It has a high carnuba content...and according to my resource at one of the online car care suppliers, the carnuba gives the shine and protects the pant. They also have an excellent paint cleanser (like a polish). I've used some clay bar from time to time.....some people get carried away and forget that clay bar is an abrasive. Meguiars provides a nice spray on product called "Final Inspection", that I will use in between waxes.
I agree with you as to too much "shiny grease" on the interior. I've used a Meguiars product for vinyl that is more of satin type shine. You'll likely experience some "ghosting" (an area becomes cloudy) on the drivers door or on other surfaces where you touch the vinyl. I've never heard anyone come up with a cause, but a good vinyl protectant takes care of the problem. Make sure you spend some time on your rims...the brake dust can accumulate and "scar" the finish.
Lexol makes some good leather cleaners and protectant....don't overlook the maintenance of your leather seats.
Enjoy...mine is under a blanket right now, but that didn't stop me from cleaning and polishing the Corsa Pipes and the wheels yesterday. You'll find Vette Care and Feeding can be addictive....in a good way!
