I didn't think it was all that bad. As far as 7.8 hours of comercials in 10 hours.......you're called out on that one. There is no way for the thing to be on w/o commercials. Fact of life. As far as the time they spend on a particular car, it is on a schedule. and many time they could get the bidding cranked back up with a bit of a break. If it was my car running over the block I sure would appreciate the extra push mid-stream. I sure saw a lot of Corvettes... and Camaros... and Chevelles on the show. What I noticed, was not as many Mopars and the ones that ran weren't nearly as strong as the last couple years.
I figured I better hop in before this thing gets locked.
You'll note that Barrett Jackson is now a "no reserve" environment and with that comes certain risks if you're the seller.
In order to get some of those "important" cars, sellers are assurred of certain prime-time slots- the top stuff will always go Friday night or late afternoon/evening on Saturday. And there's always an extra "push" if the price isn't hitting the sellers expectation.
With sales at $63 million this year, they were down 28% according to the local paper.
I agree. Lets take the time to send SpeedTV.com an e-mail and tell them how we feel. We missed a lot of good information due to the fact that the Speed commentators didn't know when to shut the f**k up! Would have been nice to have been able to hear more about the Gm Heritage Corvettes. BUT we did learn that early Corvette tire tread widths are no wider than a credit card! Don't most car people already know this?

I don't think BJ are going to be able to hold on to their "no reserve" environment much longer-they really were working to jack up the prices. One thing I saw this year was the auctioneers where saying bidders were biding higher amounts that were actually bid-they were caught doing this more then a few times. Mistakes, of course, do happen, but not as often as they were this time.
I saw on Saturday that Corvettes kind of weren't being shown on air much. Anyway, I can't believe they were only down 28%-most of the cars were only doing a third or half of what they did last year-except the Corvettes seem to be holding their values. I'm thinking Keith Martin was right about Barrett Jackson circus. I wish they would bring back Alain de Cadenet-at least he loved all the cars without the need to waste time on triva!
I used to love watching BJ but it isn't the same any more. Wait for the repeats of the highlights. I would still love to go and might next year. I could care less about the auction, I think of it as a car show.
As I live only 30 miles away, I make it a point to go to the auction at least once every year. Not so much to watch the bidding, but to see the cars up close before they hit the auction block. I agree that the BJ is on the decline as indicated from declining sales two years in a row. It is becoming all about the money. Besides the 18% they make on every car (8% to sellers, 10% for buyers), they charge for everything. I was talking to one of the vendors and he said the cost to have a booth there is extremely high. Entry fees are also high. Can't see the auction from up close as in the past, you are way in the back. Bidders pay $500 to be a qualified bidder, reimbursed if you buy a car. The worst part is trying to listen to the auctioneers! You would think they are selling tobacco or cows. They have to use plain english! They continually make mistakes and have to back up. It's because no one will listen to all that gibberish. They should take a lesson from R&M Auctions! If they don't listen up, the BJ will decline into history. Just my opinion.
Hey:
Thank you to all who think the Barrett Jackson coverage is ONE BIG SPEEDTV COMMERCIAL ! ! Its a wonder that it has lasted this long.
Maybe the ads are for Speedtv to get all the money to pay Barrett Jackson to be able to cover the auction. Like everything else that is good the greedy people will demand more and more money to do things and then will be priced out of the market.

I almost forgot , I was really p*&^%$ed about the Pontiac Club de Mer not being shown crossing the block. I was waiting to see this car and then was told it had crossed during one of their INTERMINABLY LLLLOOOONNNNGGG ad breaks. P&^%*ED to no end.

I've been a follower of the B-J on Speed since the beginning of its' live telecasts and watched just about all of this years'. Have to agree with most of the posts re lack of coverage on certain vehicles and too much emphasis on the auctioneers, etc. As has been noted, Ford was the major sponsor this year which probably accounted for less GM and MOPAR cars during the broadcast times. I realize everyone there is in it for the money, but when a car is stalling on the block, let it be. Adding extra fluff details on the spot usually doesn't change the bid by a significant amount and just eats up more air time for other cars. I find this especially irritating on the charity cars. I definitely enjoy seeing the variety of vehicles, but could watch it in 'mute' mode just fine.
still would be nice to have an extra $250k to buy some muscle clones
