i am trying to remove my 2008 shift **** and i moved the chrome ring down but i cannot loosen the screw...its a philips head apparently instead of a torx.
any ideas on how to get past the apparently loc-tighted screw?
see if you can find a bit holder to go in your socket wrench....this will give you the leverage you need from the side to turn it
another trick is to get some valve grinding compound (it comes in a tube from any parts place) its gritty and will give you extra "grip" to help with removal of lots of seamingly stripped screws, bolts and the like. Nice stuff to have around. good luck ,paul
is the shift **** real leather...the stock one that is?
Yes it is, GM changed the design from Phillips back to torx in 09. It's all about the correct size bit and pressure. Try a good quality #3 Phillips with someone holding the **** so you can apply pressure. Heat is the real answer but unless you have a micro torch, that is out. They use blue loctite and heat is really required to release it. I now know since I helped my Dad install one yesterday and I could not get the screw out .
