I just picked up my 1st corvette! It's a 2006 DOSM 6-speed with the factory 6-disc radio. I gave up trying to find everything I wanted when found this car. The only thing it didn't have on my list was the nav unit. I have a Kenwood in my daily driver and want a nav unit in my corvette. Any opinions or thoughts on installing a factory nav unit in place of existing or should I go aftermarket? Anyone know where and what I will need for the factory nav. If I go aftermarket, I would probably buy another DNX7100 or upgrade to the DNX8120. Thanks.
I think you will find your going to get a lot of opinions on this. For me the stock nav is the only way to go. It looks great with the emblem on the screen. It works great but is hard to get to know all it does. The unit is not for those that have a hard time setting the VCR time.
I'm also a purist. And believe the more the car is stock/original the better.
I installed a Premiere F90 Navigation unit in my vette and couldn't be happier. It has nav, bluetooth, XM/Sirius, Ipod, HD radio plus a slew of other features. I installed a custom start up screen that says "corvette navigation" and my dealer thought it was an upgraded factory unit until I showed him. I highly recommend it
I havn't done the research because I have other mods to do however if I was looking into a unit I would first find out if getting the factory unit would allow the directions to pup up in the HUD. If so I would probably buy the factory unit as I think that is the only reason I would rather have it then my garmin
I too am interested in this topic. I've been looking at 05-07s lately and I'm finding cars with everything I want (coupes, HUD, auto, magnetic suspension, colors, etc), with the exception of the NAV.
If the Pioneer Nav Unit (AVIC-F90BT) just slips right in without any issues, it would make my search a lot easier.
I'm also interested in changing out the silver trim for the current black trim as well. Thanks.

The factory NAV is indeed the ONLY unit to enable your nav directions to pop up in the HUD.
It will require a post-install trip to the dealer so they can hook up their Tech2 and enable both the new radio and the HUD instruction, but that dealer visit will be required anytime you install a used factory radio in your car (without that reprogramming at the dealer, your used radio will think its been stolen, and lock up upon first start-up after you install it)
