I have a manual, love shifting, love the feeling of control you have, but would advise people to get whatever they prefer after they drive both versions.
Everyone until now has been a stick. I didn't think I would like the automatic but I do. I learned another valuable lesson, even if it took me 40+ years - If mama ain't happy, nobody's happy.
recently had it tuned and the paddles are tighter. Though I appreciate the A6 in stop and go, and it shifts pretty damn well during aggressive driving as it does just cruising.
I am happy to own an A6. It is fantastic to drive and does a great job at the 'straight line racing' track. I could never shift that smoothly on my own.
I have been there, done that, with the manual tranny and now am enjoying leisure driving again.

I had a C5 cp with auto and a C5 vert stick, both at the same time. (seemed like the best of both worlds to me) Since I drove with the seat all the way back, I did have problems hitting 3rd and 5th gears sometimes. I also drove the stick in a lot of parades and that killed my left knee every time I drove. On trips I prefered the auto due to traffic jams. I traded both C5's for a new C6 vert with auto. There are times I miss the stick but, my knee thanks me and I'm not missing any shifts
I think it's up to the individual to decide what works best for him or her depending on how the car is driven. In my instance; I prefer the auto and I can always hit the paddles and pretend it's a stick

next time I'm in a parade I'll go rent the Hertz A6
Buy what you want, if you dont, you will be unhappy and this will be a basis to trade it and spend more money to get what you really want. No one elses opinion really matters on what you decide to do. Asking these questions is great and you gain knowledge. But in the end, do what only you want to do...

I guess I'm in the minority.
I had manual 6 speeds in my C4 and my C5. I thought the reportedly tighter, paddle shifting A6 in the 08 would be the answer for my bad knees and traffic clutch issues.
Having put 7000 miles on the car, I can say I was stupid. The A6 is a terrible transmission if you are a 6 speed guy. The paddles are a lousy excuse for a real shifter. I'm taking it to England Green for a tune as soon as possible because it is like a bucket of mud between me and the driveline.
It's so bad, I'm taking it in for a warranty checkup just to see if it is really supposed to shift this sloppily.
For me having an automatic is a matter of necessity. I broke my left ankle in several places years ago, so the arthritis causes pain when using the ankle to much. So no clutch for me. But on a side note I love having an automatic, and would probably have one even without the ankle problem.
I love the A6 auto with the paddle shifters. Even at $1200 + as an option 70% of Vettes are purchased with the auto. That in itself is a statement. Also, according to most dealers a auto has a higher resale value. Which makes sense since most like auto's as told by the 70%.
Manuals are fun. And dont get me wrong I like them. If I had 2 09's 1 would be a manual. But since I do not have 2 my choice is the A6.
I use to be one of those real sports cars are sticks before 05 but back then I always said if I could ever afford a vette it would be an auto. Now everything I drive on a regular basis has to be an auto so I bought an auto. I don't regret it for one minute and even if I could drive a stick still I would probably buy the auto version again.
I just wish they made an auto zo6 version that I could afford

I've yet to drive a corvette. Owned only one vehicle wayyy back when, but since pulling myself out of debt decided its time to get my baby back. ( It was an old pontiac firebird, I Loved it like my kidney but had to give it away to creditors )
Also decided that my baby's now gotta be a corvette, because what the **** is the solstice.
Anyway, Im tackling the question of stick vs Auto. I can drive both, but im kinda sick of manual. I need this to be a work-to-home vehicle as well as an expensive toy.
Any opinions/ exhilirating stories are welcome, I really dont have the time Id like to do in depth research.
i have an 05 a4 automatic. had chuck cow at corvettes of westchester tune it. love it at the dragstrip when im leaving the mn6 vettes behind !!!
