1) If the car was hit this hard, the other party knew what they did, and they should have left you a note of apology with their phone number to discuss filing a claim with their insurance company.

2) My insurance rates are too high to file a claim (can't afford higher rates from filing a claim).

3) Because my deductible on my insurance is so high, I will still pay for most of my claim.

Deduction from 1), 2), 3)....... = my own justice.

This is EXACTLY why I park in "Guam" as my wifey calls it...and FWIW, these cases arent criminal, unless the person does it on purpose....Usually they are inconsiderate a-holes whose vehicle means nothing more to them than getting from point A to point B.....

As a cop, Ive responded to these calls many times over the years...all that can be done is to gather the insurance information and provide it to the person who owns the vehicle that was damaged....Unfortunately, many of these people dont have insurance, so you're stuck with taking them to small claims court...It's hard to get blood out of a turnip, if they cant afford insurance it's likey you wont get a dime from them in a civil proceeding, even if the judgement is in your favor...

What sux even more is they cant be charged with having no insurance unless the incident occurs on a public area..private parking lot incidents are exempt from insurance requirements in Colorado...Of course once they pull onto a public street theyre fair game for a no insurance citation, but that doesnt help the person whose car they damaged..

To quote the late Sam Kinison, "While I don't condone wife beating, I understand what turns 'Mr. Hand' into 'Mr. Fist'!" Revenge vigilanteism isn't the answer, but it sure does look like a good option at the time. Waiting for the other owner could be a long, fruitless wait. Take pics for your insurance company and then let it go.

I wish I had a nickle for every time I tried this and someone still parked next to me.

You deal with it. Its likely a tiny very unnoticable mark to most people. You can waste time and effort tracking down the owner, confronting them, agruing with them... (yawn)... calling the police, waiting for the police, claiming it on insurance... or you can say a cuss word or two, get in your car and get on with life. We all love our cars but they are just cars... not worth going to jail over if you retaliate (sp?) or waisting countless hours on chasing after a tiny ding. Not like they dented it. Now if they blasted it and cracked it, thats different but inly an idiot would do that and then not move their car to another spot!

i would ask the clerk at the desk if he knows whose car it is if not i'd see if i could have him paged saying the lights were left on or door open some bs just to get his attention if you find him i'd walk him out to your car show him the evidence ask him if he's going to do the right thing or will you see him in court? i'd definately call the cops and file a report( what i'd like to do is tie the guy to the bumper of my car and drive away but they frown on stuff like that

AMEN ! I park far far away and lo and behold I come out and there is someone next to me with literally tens of spaces all over and closer to the store.
Now usually this is a "nice" car or truck and they are not over the line etc., but it still amazes me that they do not go a space or two over, but right next to you.

Or it could of been their kid getting out on the passenger side and the driver did not know this happened....

I remember many years ago coming out of the grocery store and finding my "beater" Ford Escort with another car driven right into the front bumper, crunching the plate and paint on the bumper.
Even though it was my beater (luckily) I was pretty pissed that someone obviously could not of done this and not realized it...

So I waited to confront the guilty party.
Now while I was in the store a very frail and elderly lady asked for me to reach up a shelf and grab her some items, which I of course did, and guess what ?
It was the little frail lady 's car that banged up my car- she had no idea that she hit something (probably should not of been driving)
and I just bent the plate back and hoped she did not have an accident.

Default I don't have this problem anymore!

I talked to my back doctor (trashed back from motorcycle racing 30 years ago), and she signed off on a Handicapped Parking Plaque for me, which DMV readily granted. My buddy with an '05 C6 did the same thing, for a different condition.

Now I park in the w i d e spots with the w i d e blue lanes on both sides. Problem solved!

Talk to your doctor, you may well come up with a qualifying condition.

I've seen "street justice" from people who see able bodied guys park in a handy cap spot. Regardless of whether it is legit or not. If you don't exit the car in a hobbled fashion it can still happen.

Trust me, getting out of the 'Vette with my back, I definitely look "hobbled." I probably look even worse getting back in!

I wasn't trying to point the finger at you I meant that you aren't safe anywhere regardless of situation. I have dreaded fears of the run away cart.

In most places, the police will not respond because the incident is on private property. Best you can do in most cases is to take photos and try and track down the other driver and hope he will do the right thing. If he doesn't you can always try small claims court.

If you can't wait around, not much you can do.

I'm a state leo in CT and not so here! If you have a valid PLATE on your car you had better have valid insurance!! I would have searched out the SOB that smacked my car (don't care about the time) and dealt with them! If they didn't have insurance then the vehicle would have gotten a tow for starters. If they did then it would be a police report, pictures and a call to my insurance company.

I'm fed up with worthless POS morons that simply don't give a rats azz about someone else's property!! I would have done EVERY thing in my power to make their life as miserable as possible..............

Police here are way to busy to respond to such a call. You might file a report online.

I would report it to the hotel management, have them sign a statement and notify my insurance.
