Default Elite pedals help!!!

I just received my brand new set of Elite Engineering pedals and I am trying to remove the gas pedal and I just can't get the pin to move. In the instructions, the picture looks like the pin is plastic. On my 09 the pin is medal and no matter how much force I try to apply it just doesn't want to move. I tried wedging a small screwdriver behind the head of the pin and it just wont come out. I figure I could cut the plastic one off but if I can't get that pin out then I'd be totally screwed.

Does anyone have any tips or things I can try next?

I had the same problem - it was a real pain! I just kept trying and tying and eventually it came out. If you do a search, I think there are some other suggestions, but I think it mainly is just using force to get it out.

This is what I did on my last 3 C6's when I put the Elite pedals in. Please keep in mind I had no need for the stock pedal any longer, if you want to keep your pedal for some reason then this is not the way you want to do it.

Grab stock plastic pedal and twist to side, it snaps right off, there are only two plastic tabs that the metal pin goes through. You can then easily get vise grips or whatever to get pin out. Kinda primitive Pete but the pedal is off in seconds and allows complete access to pin.

Yep - socket and C-clamp.

put a small socket over the head of the pin, put one end of the C-clamp on the socket and the other on the end of th pin. Tighten the C-clamp and it will push the pin right out into the socket.

It's metal and take a look at the instructions on the Elite web site, very clear

Yep I had those printed out, I even searched the forum, so I made this thread. The forum search did nothing for me, but when I googled it I got a link to this forum with a previous thread. Now that I am not overthinking the c-clamp method I'll give that one a try. Now that I took a break and actually thought about it, it all makes sense.

Did anyone actually remove the entire pedal assembly to install this? I think that might work too, I have been trying to do it in the car.

We have install about 25 sets, You have to lock the vise grips very tight on the head and pull and wiggle, it will come off. Never had problem

Ed,

Try the C-Clamp trick, for those few that are really tight, the C-clamps always does the trick. Here are a few extra pictures.

I used the C-clamp method with the socket and it worked very well. You have to be a bit of a contorionist to hold the socket and get the c-clamp in position, but it does work. It helps to place a small mirror behind the pedal so that you can see the back of the pedal where you're working...

Be patient and good luck!

Thanks to all for the help, and especially to Elite for making such a quality product, even though I haven't installed them yet, they are 1000% better in both appearance and quality as compared to stock. Thank you!

And the new pics make what I need to do completely clear.

That's the only way to install it. You don't have to take the pedal assembly completely out of the car. You just have to pull the bolts so you can get at it on the floor. Then hit the pin with a hammer and punch and it will pop right out. You likely can even salvage the existing pedal. Any other advice is basically a waste of time.

If you also bought the dead pedal, note that it was not designed for a C6. It is basically a generic piece that doesn't fit the existing plastic surface and has rounded corners instead of squared. If you center it on the existing plastic when you install it, it will look tacky when you are done. Rather, install it off the lower right corner so that the right edge of the aluminum barely overhangs the right plastic edge and the lower edge of the aluminum barely overhangs the bottom plastic edge.

Hold it up for a test fit and you will see what I mean. The square/round corner issue will disappear and it will look like it covers the entire plastic piece. The left plastic edge will be disguised by the kick panel so that you don't see that the metal is really too narrow. The top edge of the metal will be short of the top edge of the plastic, but you will never see it unless you stick your head all the way under the dash. Any other install procedure will leave you looking at the mismatch every time that you get in the car.

It can be made to work and look decent, but there's too much bad information on those pedals in a C6 floating around. Good luck with it.

I forgot. The aluminum gas pedal also rattles. After you install it but before you bolt the pedal back in, move it around and you will see what I mean. Have a little velcro ready and apply it to the back of the pedal to get rid of the noise, then reinstall the whole pedal assembly. It will be obvious where the velcro goes.

We have success! I used the c-clamp and although it was a little tough and I felt like a contortionist, I was able to get the pin out. It was also a little difficult getting the new pedal in, I did NOT remove the assembly, so I had to feel around a bit to get the spring in the right location, I then verified the spring placement with a mirror. I also placed a piece of Velcro on the backside of the new pedal before I installed it. No rattle. And since I know how much you guys love the pics, here are the before and afters.

P.S. Lloyd's mats are on order they should ship next week.
