i know these things are supposed to be rolling death traps, but id have a much easier time selling this to the other half if i can get my hands on a safety review...
anyone have a link to a good review of the Corvette, or does everyone die instantly??
Where are you getting your [dis] information from??
Family friend who owns a Z06.... buddy of his got a Z06 at the same time. He died when the car literally split into two pieces durring a wreck.
C6 is supposed to be safer, but im yet to find a site that gives the safety ratings... and no im not ripping on the vette, just trying to figure it out pre-purchase
For every knucklehead who splits his corvette in half there are a 1000 other owners who handle their vehichle responsibly and safely. You cant judge the car based on a few bad apples. if you drove a minivan 120 mph into a tree it would kill you too. Buy one and enjoy it.
I just checked, and no C6 model has been safety tested by the government. However, we've been led to believe that the frame has been designed to add safety to the car.
Obviously, because of its size, the C6 is not going to come out well in a crash with a huge SUV or truck, but it's probably safer than most other cars its size.

The Corvette is very safe and meets all Federal crash test requirements. Any vehicle can cause a fatality, but the Corvette is not high on the list of, "Killer Cars", anymore that the Volkswagen Jetta.

Is it was an unsafe car the insurance cost would not be so low. I am sure some of the reason is that most of these cars are driven by shall we say more mature individuals compared to some other high performance cars, but that cannot be the only reason.

That's not true. I've got the final report of the DOT side-impact tests (performed by General Dynamics) right in front of me. I have no idea why the DOT doesn't make ALL of this information available on the NHTSA web site. If you go there you're left with the impression that there are models for sale that have never been crash-tested, which I very much doubt is the case.
The side-impact test report itself is pretty tough to parse, but unsurprisingly the result is "passed."
The independent IIHS has not crash-tested the Corvette.
This forum has no good data to claim that the Corvette is good or bad. Anecdotes about crashes we don't know everything about are pretty much useless, whether they end in tragically (Z06 split in half, driver killed) or happily (major hit, drive walks away).
The 1LTs are in all likelihood the least safe C6s, because they are not equipped with side airbags.

How fast was he going (the person that died)? Corvette gets a bad rep with the news since high speed wrecks are usually caused by idiotic drivers that should have been restricted to yugos.
C6 is one of the safest cars out there when you compare similar weight cars. It has one of the best insurance rates due to its safety. Hummers are one of the worst due to their probability of flipping over and the amount of damage they cause when they do hit something.
As a collision reconstructionist I have seen a H-1 split in two by a tractor trailer, so being split in half has to do with the dynamics of the collision. I have seen more Corvette collisions than most people in my profession and I have never seen one split in half or suffer from catostrophic failure. If you hit a large oak tree, steel pole or another imovable object with any vehicle there is a possibility that "it could be split in half". The corvette is just as safe as most vehicles and more safe than some.

If the Corvettes were not safe cars compared to others, than the insurance rates would be much higher - they aren't. In fact the insurance companies have lower rates than most would expect for a Corvette.
