Okay guys and gals....I know these types of threads get old. But I'm on the fence over which set of tires to buy to replace my Z51 Goodyear Runcraps on my 08 Vette.

Since price is a factor I've ruled out the lastest and greatest Michelins PS2's. I realize they are an all around great set of tires (excellent traction in wet and dry, not as noisy, and they're runflats) but I do not care to have the runflat protection or spend the extra $$$ since they're are a couple of tires out there arguably just as grippy in wet and dry (or perhaps even better) for less $$$. So I've narrowed my choices down to three tires; the new Kumho Ecsta XS, the well known BFGoodrich g-force T/A KDW NT, and the ever popular Nitto Invo's!!! The Kumho's are a tad more expensive for the rear tires than the Nitto and BFGoodrich's which are approximately the same price as each other for both the fronts and the rears. Anyway, I've set up a poll (I hope..lol) so please take a sec and vote on which ones you would buy. And if you have a sec tell me why! Also, if you would rather buy something else...even the Michelins...choose other and post why again if you will? Thanks in advance you all!

PS: The tires will be going on factory wheels and I wish to keep the factory spec sizes, for now anyway. ;-D And last, I got 16,000 miles out of my factory Goodyear's. I'm actually pleased with the wear as I do drive aggressively. I would just like to replace them with something superior in the grip dept that will last me for just as long.

Thanks bud. Figured you'd be one of the first to post. I'm not familiar with the GS2's. Are they WAY better than the crap I have now???...lol Do you have a link for these? I don't recall seeing them on Tirerack or Discountire.

 

I just recently put a full set of General Exclaim UHPs on my '07 with a widebody rear (325/40-19's in the rear, 245/30-18's in the front. Did all 4, mounted & balanced, for under $900. I went with these based on recommendations I found in some threads here.

I just put close to 300 miles on 'em yesterday and so far I'm very happy with my choice. Nicer ride, much quieter than the F1 Supercar RF's I had and in 40 degree weather, I have nothing bad to say about the handling or stickiness of 'em. And with a wear rating of 280, they should last a while. And as I don't regularly maintain speeds > 168 MPH, I think I'll be ok in that department

These are NOT RFs so I picked up a tire plug kit and small 12v compressor for under $50 at a local NAPA and tossed 'em both in one of the rear compartments.

Can't wait for the warm weather to see how they REALLY do!

 

Michelin PS2's. Next choice the KDW BFG's.

 

General acclaim's those are basically a family car tire! Wait till you take a fast corner with them. They'll break lose and you'll wreck your car geesz nice car . cheap tire!!!

 

I don't understand people who want extreme performance but won't put up with a little noise or the fact they ride a little stiffer. I bet most people wouldn't even know the difference. Kind of like the guys who put in a k n filter and brag about all the extra horsepower they can feel instantly. I slalom track and don't tell me that the stiffer sidewall of the supercar doesn't affect handling. it sure does FOR THE BETTER. Throw on the general right after a good mountain run and do same again and you will be shocked at difference in handling TO THE POINT OF BEING SCARY!!!

 

The Goodyear GS2 is the tire Chevy puts on all of the cars, except those with the Z51 option, at the factory. Good tread life, good performance in the wet, adequate performance in the cold, not a snow tire.

 

With temps in the 40's and 50's yesterday, I did have a chance to push things a little bit but not as much as I would if temps were higher. Still, no indications of the tires breaking loose, squealing or any other weaknesses I could detect. I wasn't getting too crazy but I wasn't driving like a ***** either

My experiences yesterday say you're wrong but we'll see when the warm weather gets here.....

I just bought the Michelin PS2 ZP runflats... my next choice was the Firestone Firehawk wide ovals. I'm still not sure the PS2 ZPs are enough better performance to justify the higher price, but I went with them.

One additional advantage of the PS2 ZPs is that they are a couple of pounds lighter than the OEM Goodyears. Since my aftermarket wheels are a couple of pounds heavier than the OEM wheels, I hope this balances each other out...

Sorry no more Goodyears. I want tires that grip and handle better, may last longer, and are a lot less expensive then the Goodyears. Also, I do not care to have the runflat technology. That's what a good tire patch kit or roadside assistance is for!

I voted for the KDW's because I've had 2 sets on 2 different cars and I loved them on both. I'd put them on the Vette, but I'm not a fan of risking it with a non-RF.
