Saw on the Today show this AM that sirius is considering going belly up.
Is this gonna be a wait and see thing or are we that like either one(XM) doomed? Even though I don't like the new programming on XM I like it better than regular FM.

I agree. I just renewed for 77 bucks. Lot's of talk about them just going away but I doubt that would happen before someone picks them up.
Most experts don't think it will affect their customers, except pricing will most likely go up. Who will loose is their investors and those they owe money to.
Should we worry? My parents might have asked that question about the great depression or world war two. Should we worry about the depression? Should we worry about **** Germany?
Should we worry? About what? XM? What?
We might worry about:
Iran
Iraq
Pakistan
Russia
Afganistan
Terrorism
Global economic problems
Even worry about the safety of peanut products tops "XM" IMO.
Worry?
Even worrying about whether the vette will continue to be produced doesn't make the above list.

Sirius is in big trouble. When they bought XM they took on a huge load of debt (half a billion dollars) that they can't service (Sirius is selling at 11 cents a share). Dish Network has bought up some of that debt from the banks holding it. The word on the street is that Dish is going to use that leverage to force Sirius into involuntary bankruptcy (Ch 7). That'll allow them to pick up Sirius' assets for pennies on the dollar. Dish Network will then become the operator of satellite radio in the US. The big losers will be the banks and record companies who hold the bulk of Sirius' debt instruments, and of course the stockholders who own Sirius stock will lose everything. Customers will be dealing with a new company, they may lose the benefit of any long term contracts they may have bought from XM or Sirius.

I'd worry more about GM than SIRIUS/XM. But Chap 11 could fix most of their ill's and make them viable again. It actually be a good thing.

Good grief.
Now here's a person that looks at the real world. Bravo, I endorse your comment. Important things first.

This is 100% correct. Sirius/XM will be in bankruptcy soon, probably next week. They've already hired attorneys to do it themselves, assuming Dish doesn't put them into it involuntarily.
When my free XM was up, I cancelled on both the cars. When my free Sirius subscription is up in December, I will cancel on that car unless the price comes down.
If they'd lower the price I think a lot more customers would stick with satellite, and they would start making a profit because they'd have more customers. A discount for multiple users might also be a good idea. Right now with the economy like it is, satellite radio is a very low-on-the-totem-pole expense for most people and they need incentives to make them spring for the annual fee. I am not talking about the discount they give you grudgingly because you insisted, but a discount for every customer.
I like satellite radio but I can live without it. I have found my iPOD to be a better choice for music while I am driving. I only hear the songs I like and it is portable and can be used in any car.
