If the priority start disables the battery, how do you open the doors initially? Do you have to open them manually or does the priority start wake up when you attempt to open the doors? I am contemplating purchasing one but need to make sure it wont be a hassle. I drive my car approx. 2-3 times a week and on occasion I have battery issues (even with a new battery) 2005 M6, MY, Z51.
you have to use the key to get in then push in the cig lighter that wakes up the battery. I have one off my car if your interested. I leave my car on a trickle charger and have had no issues with it. I ended up taking it off. I thought they fixed the dead battery syndrome on the 05's with a reflash of the pcm?

Thanks in advance!
I had a Priority Start and threw it out. What they dont tell you is this pos helps drain your battery cuz it uses your battery power to run. If you got battery issues, this is not going to help. If you have the oem battery and has died on you a few times already, it is beyond redemption anyways. Buy yourself a new one. Mine crapped out in two months and I pitched that too, replacing it with a deep discharge Optima Yellow Top. Even with problems (which I dont have), you can recharge it over a 100 times with no loss of battery power. Try that with a non deep discharge battery! Good Luck!
I still have one on my 05, and yes I did the flash and I have a Yellow top battery and charger for when it sits in the winter. It seem that no matter how many time you tell the guy parking it or working on it , at the dealer they will not put it in reverse to turn it off. It may cause some drain on the battery but it's never failed to let the car start.
i have one on my 06...in cleveland , i can go 2 days-4 weeks (unfortunately) without driving my car and it has saved me on a number of occasions...it has always died just after opening the door...you hear that mechanical turning of gears, wait a few seconds, push in the cig lighter and magic !! o/w i would do the manual release in the trunk...

I don't beleive the priortiy is a power drain it moniters the volts and the gears kick in and it disconnects if the voltage drops below 12 volts I believe protecting the battery from a complete drain.

I thought it was a neat protection idea too by installing it. I did not believe it either until a few folks here showed & proved the Priority Start was indeed draining the battery. This was in '07, not sure the threads are still around. It was enough to convince me, and sure enough my problems went away after throwing it out. By that time my oem battery was about shot from the drains, so I got a Yellow Top. No more problems, no more issues.
I do have a Battery Minder Plus which I only use twice a year for a week or two when away so to desulphate the battery and keep it in top shape.
I installed a priority start after 2 dead battery episodes. I also now keep a battery tender on the battery. Prior to the battery tender use the priority start saved me twice. You do have to open the car with the key, then hit the cigarette lighter, or open the hood and disconnect, then reconnect the ground lead that goes to the priority start.
It may pull some power to monitor the battery voltage, but it did keep enough pwer in the battery to start the car, so for me, I'm a believer.
