Whether the U.S. auto industry can ultimately survive is problematic but given more normal economic times demand for Corvette (and GM products) is still there.

This recession is especially sever but we've survived economic downturns and bumbling, mis-guided politicians before. It might be the end of an era with respect to Corvette but I hope not. My confidence in the current direction of our Government is virtually nil but they can't kill my long term optimism. There's conflict between being realistic and optimistic but IMO a pessimistic...fatalistic outlook is counter-productive to helping GM and Corvette survive. If anyone is sitting on the fence about buying a new Corvette (or GM product) don't...be confident and buy your new dream car!
The weekend after 9-11 my wife and I went to a High School Reunion in Las Vegas. We flew there and rented a car, a convertible Firebird. It was a good weekend and I really liked the Firebird. The next Monday,
while driving to work, I was listening to the radio, Paul Harvey announced the end of the Camaro. After driving that Firebird in Vegas that past weekend, hearing that G.M. wasn't going to be making any more, for sure, made me really want one. Shortly after I bought a Victory Red/black, 2001 Camaro SS. Stopping production motivated me to make that purchase. I'm sure that if it was announced that G.M. were going to stop production of the Corvette it would have the same affect for many folks that didn't even know that they were potential buyers.

I've owned 4 Vettes, in the way back past from 1967 -1973. In 07', I bought a brand new LMB coupe. I secretly yearned for this car for 34 yrs. My financial status prevented my purchase till then. I'm sad that, GM and the beloved Vette might disappear, but, at least I finally have my Vette. I shall keep this car till the wheels fall off or until I die. I love it that much. Big business, the Gov't, the stock market, all those money hungry greedy so and so's are totally screwed up and are ruining everything, but, at least my Vette is mine. Long live this car and all it's heritage, it has been and still is, a great ride. Vettes totaly rule the road!
P.S.- My wife just lost her job after working for 36 yrs for a company.
THAT REALLY SUCKS....

Sorry to hear that buddy. Keep strong. Things will get better. This was my 1st time in 22 years of being in business that I had to issue a lay off. I own a small company but with gas prices how they were and the ecoony tanking and the ever so costly prices of Insurance (Liabiliy, workers comp, health and auto) I just couldnt justify the spending on employees that were producing a negative balance after weeks tallys. I held in there until 1st of year and I had to cut jobs. I am a good boss and I hated to have to do that. Chokes me up the country let it get this bad. As soon as I see a turn for the better I am going to rehire but for now I am working with bare minimums to survive!

The more our government gets involved with running the economy, the worst things get. And when GM has it's final breath, I think Corvette will die with it. I can't see another enity becoming involved by purchasing the brand. Certainately public tastes for transporation is changing rapidly, and the market for the middle class sports car is evaporating. Perhaps the Bowling Green facilities will be sold to another manufacturer, but it will not be Corvettes rolling off the line. Yes, this is, in all possibilities, the end on an era. I've been a gear head for 50 years, and have owned some great cars and it's been a fun ride. I just feel sad for those that follow that may never know the fun and satisfaction that comes from owing and driving the Corvette.
Was it stupid or ignorance that voted them in?

As Thomas Jefferson said more than 200 years ago, the only way voting works to the benefit of a democratic society is if the voting public is educated...
