Default 360 lockpick need some help.

Hey guys,

Started in on the 360 lockpick project to day. I went ahead and swapped the USAspec I had previously installed with the lockpick to see what the difference is. Less of the XM channels are taken by the Lockpick, and the sound seems crisper. I do note that some tracks have some noise in them but I thin k it may be I have not done the crossfade deal.

I intend on setting up a front camera as well as rear camera. I scoped out the front camera location today and will likely attach to the piece of grill that comes a part on the passengers side so as to be able to return to stock if need be. I had considered drilling into the front plate and the removable plate bracket, but think the camera will be better protected set in the car a bit. I have not tackled going through the firewall, but intend to remove fuse box and battery and hopefully pulling the wire through that area.

Lockpick 360 comes with some pretty good instructions with pictures and reference a video, though it was not sent nor is yet on the site. They specify removing the Nav and the screen and replacing a ribbon with theirs that includes a patch. Then some simple harness replacement and some decisions on either putting a constant current on the system, and/or attaching the video functions to the parking brake. They clearly specify you can just ground this wire which is ready to go on the harness if you want the option of seeing the cameras/video while moving. I will opt for this. There is a usb charging spot on the 360, but I have not figured out what I would attach there since the Iphone/IPOD input at the lockpick/xm interface charges.

I have started dismantling the console to pull the radio, but have run into some resistance form the aux cigarette lighter. Is there a secret to removing the blue connection lock? I had no problem removing the one in the ashtray but this one is causing me all kids of trouble. I have read many threads in the search but have yet to see any hints or tips to take this out. Perhaps I am being to gentle. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

I will snap some photos once I get to the radio and the cameras and put a word doc together.

The secret is you probably need 3 hands to do it.

Some of those disconnect by pushing in on one area while opening the ends and pulling gently apart. I'd have to see pics for this particular plug... maybe someone else can chime in

I currently have the lock pick for my IPod installed, let us know the differences and how you like each one.

Thanks

haha, I've removed my console several times and I've still not learned "the trick" to removing that stupid clip. Every single time I spend about an hour disconnecting those different clips. I would just suggest to keep trying and you'll get it eventually.

On another note, I plan on getting the lockpick as well. In regards to the usb connection on the 360 unit, is that so you can play video from your ipod on the nav? I know that you can purchase the unit without the lockpick, so that could also be a reason for it. But I would like some clarification on this as well.

It seems it is only for charging. I think the ribbon replacement allows for playing movies and videos through the xm lockpick. Previously the usaspec I had would allow you to play audio from the videos I had on the ipod playlist.

In looking at the directions it is for av cable that apple puts out that needs to be charged to play videos. Since I am running a front camera and a back camera I'll be skipping the video playback.

When you finally get it all connected, I'm curious about the video quality out of the IPOD to the NAV display. I wouldn't expect it to be great, but it would be nice if it was.

Which rearview cam did you go with? And have you decided how you will mount it? Looking forward to the results.

Actually, if you disconnect just the emergency flasher button and the seat heater switches you can (carefully!) rotate the console bezel onto the passenger side floor with all the rest still connected.

I know I figured it out once since I replaced the stock bezel but every time I try to remove the bezel the lighter is the stopper.

Why the GM engineers felt the need to make this sooooo difficult is a mystery.

I went with the rearview camera coastal tech sells. I mounted it where the opening for the key. Really just lodged it in the gap and will put a little silicon bead to keep it from moving once I adjust. I never use the key. Tonight after work I'll finish running the cables through the console and will likely get the stereo hooked up again. Hopefully everything works!

I decided to buy the apple kit to run video through Iphone/Ipod. So I won't be running a forward camera. I have not figured out if I will put second Ipod tap in console or in glove box.

Is this that new one that uses the nav like the original GM PAL announcement that never materialized? Want to see some pics and review of the nav interface.

Based upon what you have seen so far, will my Peripheral Technology iPod interface also work with the Lockpick 360? (The Peripheral unit mounts behind the radio with a GM harness adapter.)

Default Lockpick 360 update

So I got everything connected. First thing is the connection of the ipod through the Lockpick 360 has way better sound than either the coastal tach or the lockpick through the xm. Seriously it is about as good as sound as you can hope for using Ipods. The videos from the Ipod are good as well. I played a Foo Fighters video (long road to ruin) and Kung Fu Panda, as well as A South park episode, or parts of it. You can control video tint color etc. but the system seems to remeber what is preferred, and there is a button to save. The ipod interface is controled completely through your ipod/iphone!!! so song playlist, album whatever is controlled.

Negatives so far, though I have not called coastal tech and worked them out. The vol **** does not work, you have to use the steering controls. This surprises me. I have no GSP signal. There must be some reset I have not discovered. This affects the clock.

On a stupidity/personal note, I ran down the battery. Had to jump it with mu diesel truck to get it going again. Now the vert top won't function, so it looks like I have some research to do on how to rest that. Thin k the manual says I have to release hydraulics and then retry switch.

So tomorrow I will trickle charge battery and work on getting top operational and contact Coastal tech for some advice on GSP and reseting top controls. Perhaps like indexing ?? The back up camera works great. will experiment with reverse image or straight image to see which I like. When all is resolved i will attempt to stuff all this back into dashboard and likely stuff cavity with close cell foam.

Anybody know how to reset vert top controller? The manual says I should release hydraullc pressure with a wrench I never received.

So if you have to do all iPod/iPhone control thru the iPod, then I guess the only advantage is the video?????? Personally, I don't want a camera and watching videos is not high on my list. Since I have the US Spec being controlled thru the iPhone, and have already spent that money, no need to spend if no Nav interface. Too bad as I was looking forward to a Nav interface and the video would have been the cherry on the top.

Since you are running a wire through the firewall for the forward camera, you might want to run an add'l wire for a mic and install it under the hood (out of the air stream.) Then wire a camera recorder in series to the unit...

So are you saying that to get the best sound out of the iPod, you need to go with the new 360 vs. the original Lockpick? I don't need videos or cameras.
