Anybody here do it your self? Tip's & suggestion's for best result's please. What would you do different next time? I have a 20 X 30 Garage to do. Also, where to get best deal?
I did it myself a few years ago. It's not hard at all, they snap together like leggo's.
A good dead-blow hammer is a must.
I borrowed a portable table saw like this one from a friend to cut the tiles. They can be cut with a hand-held saw, but it won't look near as good.
The tiles expand/contract more than I expected, so leave a small gap around the edges or it will bulge in the middle on really hot days (or if you leave your car idling inside the garage for a while).
If you're installing a border color, make sure you get the math right for how wide to cut the pieces
Measure the width of your garage at several points to make sure it's square before you start. I did just to make sure, and it's a good thing.
I managed a good deal from a local vendor in St Louis duing our annual auto show. I managed 15% off plus free installation.
I watched him and his son install it and while it looked easy and took about 4 hours to do my 20X30 garage. They did have a special cutting tool that made cutting tiles a breeze. I'd hate to have to try that by hand.
Good luck.
Tom
BTW I paid $1700 installed with a bunch of extra pieces should I need them.
I did half of my garage (two stalls) with Racedeck myself three years ago and it was quite simple. Just a good rubber hammer needed, as has been stated. I measured and drew a diagram prior to ordering the tiles, so it was a matter of putting them down as I had envisioned. My younger son and a friend helped, and it took about two hours. I bought them through a local garage store that is now out of business. I recall it was cheaper than buying direct. They ordered the pieces per my specs, including the border pieces. They do expand, as has been noted, so keep that in mind during the installation.
