C6-09 The 1-4 shift light comes on when the car is started. When the car ****s from1-4 the light on the dash does not light up. Any one have this problem and know the fix? thanks in advacne for the help
the light does not come on if YOU shift from 1st to 4th, only under certain circumstances the car MAKES you shift from 1st to 4th and the light comes on.
Check your owners man. it is set out in good detail.
not sure what your question is. light comes on at start up to show its working. it will only come on again when you meet certain conditions like speed, throttle position, etc. check your owners manual and it will outline the conditions in which the light will illuminate and where you will only be able to shift from first to fourth. my '08 info is on page 3-38but you will need to look under instruments to find it in your OM. hope that helps.
The light is on when you start the car which means the light is functioning. The car will make the 1-4 shift but the dashlight does not come on when the shift is made.I know it is not the bulb must be some sensor some where.

I agree with the CAGS eliminator suggestion. Put it in and you don't need to lose sleep over the light regardless
As others have indicated, nearly all the warning lights on the dash will come on when the engine is started to let you know those warnings are working.
Here's an explanation of when the 1-4 shift light will come on and let you shift only from 1st to 4th (or 3rd). It comes from page 3-39 of the 2009 owner's manual.
One to Four Shift Light
(Manual Transmission)
When this light comes on,
the vehicle can only be
shifted from 1 (First)
to 4 (Fourth) instead of
1 (First) to 2 (Second).
The shift must be completed into 4 (Fourth) to turn off
this feature. This helps the vehicle get the best possible
fuel economy.
After shifting to 4 (Fourth), the vehicle can be
downshifted to a lower gear.
Notice: Forcing the shift lever into any gear except
4 (Fourth) when the 1 TO 4 SHIFT light comes on
may damage the transmission. Shift only from
1 (First) to 4 (Fourth) when the light comes on.
This light comes on when:
• The engine coolant temperature is higher than
169°F (76°C),
• The vehicle is going 15 to 19 mph
(24 to 31 km/h) and
• The vehicle 21 percent throttle or less.

Search "CAGS" (Computer Assisted Gear Shifting) for at least two ways to defeat the skip-shift. (Once you figure out what it is doing, I will give long odds that you will want to defeat it.) For me, the blown Smart Glow fuse works fine.
I think he said the light comes on at start up. Ok we ALL agree that it shows that the bulb is functional and will light.
I believe he then said, "It forced him to go 1-4 BUT the light didn't come on" (or something to that effect).
That is not asking what you guys are explaining? The CAGS solenoid activated, trundled him to 4th and he says the dash light didn't light.
My question to him is "Are you sure it didn't light?" If the solenoid pushes you to 4th, the light on the dash should be lit. Briefly, even VERY briefly, but on just the same.
Quicksilver...I also have this problem occasionally. Basically as Elmer stated, you know the light is working b/c it comes on at startup, however it does not function appropriately in conjunction with the actual shift from 1-4th...ie: no light is on, you go to shift from 1st to 2nd and it puts you in 4th w/ no visual warning.
Infortunately I can not provide you with a resolution or explanation *** to what is happening or why. All I can suggest, like most of the other members have suggested, the CAGS is the way to go. I have one, just have not installed it yet. It's a sure fire way to get rid of this issue.
Elmer is correct. On my C5 the 1-4 lights up when it automatically shifts from first to fourth. According to manual it should work the same way on the C6. When I take it out of the winter hibernation I will look for a quick flash.
My light only comes on when I start the car as well but never when I am forced to shift from 1 to 4 as it should. Doesn't matter to me anyway, I tuned the CAGS out with HPTuners.
Forgive my ignorance but do all C6 with manual 6spd trans. have this feature? I've never heard of this? my 08 with Z-51 is a manual 6 spd and the car has never forced me to shift 1-4 that I know of?

Weird?
Standard feature on most manual GM cars for quite a while now. I had it on my 98 Camaro so at LEAST the 98s had it.
Stupid EPA gimmick forced to duck the guzzler tax. I'm guessing 1994 or so for the first CAGS.

Would it be on an export car? I am in Canada and the car was purchased here. I really don't think I have that feature or I would have seen it by now? I'd check the car but it's in storage on the other side of town
