Default Help With Gremlins

Ok guys I've got some serious issues flowing around in the car. Let me start by stating the facts.

No Check Engine Codes are thrown, Battery is brand new replaced yesterday thinking it had a dead celll possibly.

Car will not turn on when i press the ignition button, but sometimes it will turn on but shut off 30 seconds after the dash lights turn on. The display said "Service Fuel System" and Steering column locked, and it shut off all power to the inside of the car. Every ground i can see is hooked up Just wondering if anyone has had this happen. I have went threw ALL fuse's inside and in the engne bay.

Profile says 2005 C6 with Z51 . . . doesn't indicate auto or manual . .

To the OP - - -assume you've owned the car for awhile and generally aware of what to do/not do with respect to starting and shut down -- reverse when parked, etc. Also assume that battery in the remotes are good and original to the car? How about total miles on the car?? Might have a bearing . . .

If it shuts off and displays the fuel system light, I'd say best course of action is to pull the diagnostic code - -probably related to fuel system - -plugged fuel filters . .bad gas . . .bad sensor . . .fuel or crank positioning?

Dang - -gotta be frustrating - -good luck - - please post the resolution.

I thought the same thing until I read "steering column locked". Sounds like a FOB that isn't talking correctly with the car. FOB battery starting to go dead?

Try the same tests with the FOB in the glovebox as stated in the manual. See if the car behaves OK. If it does, the FOB has a low battery. If it doesn't make a difference, then I am kinda lost. I'd go back to diagnostic codes and PIDs.

i would start by using your other fob of the one you have in the glove box pocket,,,if that doesnt do anything for you then time to take it in.
If the fob battery is weak or the fob is acting up it would do some of your complaints. Talon can give you all the specifics of how they work. good luck. paul

That’s the way the car (05 manual) was designed, it supposed to be a way to make a sequence to tell the car to shut down because there was no key.

Because of all the that caused it was removed from a mandatory move to shut down the car in the years after. ONLY 05s were so burden with this nonsense

Now it’s recommended but not necessary

Oh ok. Just wondering because my '09 didn't say anything about that in the manual.

If you can check out the Optima batteries I have had good luck with them. If the one in my Vette dies I am going that route. With the deep cell aspect of it there is a better chance of recovery from a drain.

It really sounds like a FOB battery to me? Car will not turn on? like no inst. lights, steering column locked, no check engine codes etc? FOB battery seems to make the most sense.

Its not the FOB, i replaced those too, the car will crank up sometimes for a second then the inside loses power, the cars a 6 spd. The car cranked up yesterday with no dash lights on........ like the car was cranked and didnt have power inside the power button wasnt even on. I Havent had the car very long about 2 months its a project car, it would turn on fine before but i havent had time to work on it and i finally got time and now the power wont come on anymore longer than 30 seconds at a time.

I just purchased a Optima battery yesterday to replace the crapy one that was in the car. It didnt have any gas in it at all i just put brand new 5 Gal of Shell Vpower put in, New Spark plugs, new Fob battery. I did all this to try to figure out what the prob is seems like the ECM might be taking a dump

Also i dont know if this has any effect to the issues going on, when i first got the car the driver side door was "unfunctional" but the Fob would allow the passanger side to open. Now neither side works.

I tested the Fob yesterday at O reillys, and it worked but i replaced the batterys anyways just incase.

You need a code reader of whatever type. My first thoughts go back to the battery itself or the battery connections.

The Service column lock impacted the C5 model and may have carried over to the 05.

Basically the car thinks your steering column is locked and for safety shuts down the engine.

This is a major issue on the C5.. Devices such as a column lock bypass are for sale...but only help if you install prior to the problem.

Search Column lock in the C5 section and see if the symptoms there match yours.

There's that and the computer is programmed to shutoff fuel if the Service column lock message appears for safety reasons. They do not want you driving with a locked wheel so if the message appears it cuts fuel.

Some members have the wheel free but the computer thinks its locked and shuts off fuel.

Lastly your right the theft module may come in to play based on some of the reading I did previously.

You may want to ask your Question in C5 General. Explain you think you have a C6 with C5 common problems.

I wish you luck.
