Default C6 Radar Detector Placement

I'm having so much fun driving my "New" 06 vert! I took it to Dallas and loved it on the highway. I will be bringing it to BG in May for the forum cruise in!

I would like to add a Radar Detector and wondered if anyone has one that can be installed so there are not cords everywhere and is still highly functional.

Thanks,

Capt Roy

Use invisicord to connect into the mirror power, 5 minutes and you are done.

I mounted mine under the rearview mirror. Made my own bracket and power cord like the invisicord. powered from the harness to the mirror. Bracket attaches to mirror using 3M automotive double side tape. can send photos if interested and can help with fabricating the mount.

Or you could do what I did and mount it on the dash, plug it in in the console. To me it seems if I put on the visor or the mirror it reduces my view, especially in typical downtown traffic where I would need to look up at street signs or traffic lights. But as late, I've been mulling over the visor mount location. maybe time for a change

Default are they helpful?

Have the radar detectors really been helpful to you? Isn't the joke that they tell you when you've been busted? I thought the laser units THE MAN has nowadays made detectors kind of useless. I've never had one, but might reconsider if they offer some useful pre-busted warning.

Here's a whole thread, with pics, on how I mounted mine. I still haven't seen an installation that puts the 8500 up and out of the way any better!

Quality detectors are still VERY useful however you can't just turn it on and expect it to protect you 100%. You still have to be smart and watch your driving behavior. Instant on will also get you so you have to watch for the warning signs.
As far as LIDAR (laser), if you get hit with it you're pretty much toast. By the time your detector goes off your speed will already be locked. There are some drawbacks to LIDAR though in that you have to be stationary, very steady, and have no obstructions. A lot of departments have gone to LIDAR but many still use radar. It really depends on the area you live in. I can tell you that in the NVa, Md, Wv panhandle areas radar is still widely used. I usually get hit at least once a day with it (when driving the Vette).
My advice is to buy a quality detector, read up on what to watch for, and how to adjust your driving behavior. I can tell you that I have never been stopped in my Vette with my detector but I have been nailed (no ticket) in my DD without..

I made my own Visor mount, and invisicord. I placed mine on the passanger side visor bracket and hard wired it to the mirror. It works perfect , as a matter of fact I made a few extra cords 12" and thinking about selling them.

Hey with everything going on in this time we all have to do a little something extra $$$$$$$$$$ .

I have no problems with the visor hitting it or it flopping around. IMO this is the best spot for it.

Well it's certainly not like the old 'X' band days where you would get a warning 2 miles before the trap. Unless the units get a whole lot more sensitive (if that's physically possible), they are becoming almost useless as more departments update to laser. From what I have witnessed using the V1, the beam from laser is so tight that it's rare you actually pick it up from cars ahead of you. Even when I'm in a tight pack of cars and the officer is pointing and shooting, I rarely get any alarm and when I do I'm sure he's got my mug in his viewfinder

V1, Great Lakes Trophies visor mount with invisicord tapped into powered rearview mirror. Mounted on drivers side. I tried the mount on the passenger side, but having to take your eyes off of the road more by looking over to the pass. side, I didn't like. Right in front of my driving line of sight works out better for me.
