Default In the shop again...

Well, my '07 Machine Silver is back in the shop again. Several things to be addressed this time.

First, the glass top is being replaced due to fine spider web cracking. This is cool and my props to the dealership.

Second, there is a "sqeeek!" i get from somewhere in the dash area that is annoying as heck. Every time I go over the cracks in the concrete frost joints on the freeway. It's about as annoying and sounds strangely similar to the noises the "family truxter delux" made in National Lampoon's Vacation. Every friggen crack in the road - jeez!

Third, I have an A6 and it makes the most annoying sound when in "D" or "S" and stopped. It's a sound akin to a sack of marbles rolling around in oil - "grumble, grumble, goiunche, goiunche, grumble, grumble." When placed in park, things sound as they should. The dealer attempted to address this earlier in the year when I mentioned it before - they changed the differential fluid and added the friction additive; it seemed to solve the problem for a month or so, but it's back now.

In all reality the dealer (RK Chevrolet) has been first-class in attempting to get things squared away. It's taken several attempts to get it done, but they've always been great about setting me up with a free rental - today I've got a brand new Hummer H3.

Wish me luck on the hopes that things get fixed for good this time.

Sorry to hear about all the problems you're having with your 07. GM is now saying there's a different differential fluid for A6s that doesn't require an additive.

Latest axle chatter TSB (thanks to member, calemasters):

Date: 01-09-2008TSB: #07-04-20-002A Document ID# 2048181 2005 - 2008 Chevrolet Corvette Subject: Rear Axle Clunk and/or Chatter Type Noise on Turns(Drain/Refill Rear Differential Fluid) #07-04-20-002A - (01/09/2008) Models: 2004-2008 Cadillac XLR (Including V-Series and Export) 2005-2008 Chevrolet Corvette (Including Z06 and Export) This bulletin is being revised to change the fluid recommendation and to remove the requirement of adding friction modifier. I find that my HUD surround makes a noise from time to time. Reaching up and slightly pulling on it, stops it instantly. Another is a buzzing type sound that I could swear was coming from the right rear speaker cover, wasn't even close... it was the nav display upper right corner.

I'm fellin' ya; I've done the drive around with one hand on the wheel feeling up everything in the interior in the hopes of finding the source of the noises. I'm sure it looks like a chimpanzee is loose and swinging around on the inside of the car. Eww! Eww! Eww!, good Cheetah.

Never heard of the diff. TSB happen when stopped! My A6 car had it at slow speeds never while stopped. My dealer swapped out the fluid and it was fine for almost a year then it started again and they changed the fluid with the new stuff. Again about a year later it acted up again and I convinced them to change the clutch packs out. I think the problem is solved, hopefully.

The dealer and service adviser (Sandra) have been great and very accommodating thus far. Kudos in that regard.

Yup, it defiantly acts up and makes all kinds of muffled clunking, swishy, grumble, grumble, goiunche, goiunche, grumble, grumble sounds when in "D" and "S". Like I said, place it in park and it all goes away. It makes sense that this could be the clutch pack in this case.

Hey you're a local... I've heard good things about RK's service center, but never used them. Their sales people are a complete joke though.

I had a good experience with the sales folks too, but then again I bought via GMS plan (Hughes/Raytheon) so haggling was not an issue.

The squeeek!!

I KNOW THIS ONE!!!! I had problems chasing the noise to it's souce, especially while driving...

The squeeek!! is most likely from 1 of two areas: (I had both 1 & 2 taken care of and the squeeek!! is gone)

1 - Your removeable targa top, when installed on the roof - the latches need to be lubed or replaced (a common theme on the forum here).

2 - Your removeable targa top stored in the hatch area. There's a TSB for this - need to add some felt strips to the holder clamps in the hatch for the top.

Hope this helps...

We'll I'll have a brand spakin new top today; we'll see if that's the cure for what ails me. As far a squeaking when stowed; I got that one covered, the felt thing was one of the first things I did when I got the car.
