Default front end rattle when going over bumps

I have an 06 corvette. it now has 19k, since 8k miles the car has had a rattle that seems to be coming from the front end. Every time i go over bumps it rattles like if something was loose. if i apply the brakes while going over bumps the noise disappears. I have taken the car in to the dealership 4 times, but every time i get it back they cant seem to ever hear the noise i described. Has anyone had or heard of this problem before.

thanks

Default When...

When was the last time you changed brake pads.
I am just thinking...
Maybe worn pads are making the noise.
My 2 cents

Bushings on the sway bars worn out possibly? Doesn't seem like that could happen at that low miles.. but if the car sits for extended periods of time..

Do you remember hitting any pot holes? Maybe a suspension part is damaged like a front strut? There are also several parts under the hood that bolt on, maybe something's loose under there?

brake pads rattling possibly, if you can get the front in the air even if its just one side at a time and smack the tires on the middle of the thread pattern with a big *** hammer. That is usually a good way to find rattles, i would think a shock where it mounts or sway bar bushing and the brakes pads g would be a good place to start. good luck, paul

Reach up underneath and give your front sway bar a yank and see if the bushings make a clankity-clank noise.

Also check the rear because a noise in the front could mean a noise in the back with cars.. the noises play tricks on ya. Hitting the tires with a mallet would be a good idea too, like the other guy suggested.

I checked the brake pads, and they are ok, no issues there

Do you have the aftermarket chrome screws holding your body panels together?

Try this: Go back to the shop and take the guy with you for a test drive so he can hear the noise.

The brake pads are fine, no issues there. I would guess the issue is tied in with the brakes becuse when i apply the brakes over bumps the rattle stops.

Thank you all for your opinions, i will try to lift the car today and check to see if i can find somthing loose (Sway bar, shocks, bracke calipers, etc

Sounds like the rotors (one or both) are loose. They should be dead tight if that makes any sense. It is not the break pads but the floatilng rotors that hold the break pads.

I'm guessing the noise is from the bushings - they can make noise as they get older. If so try spraying them with some WD-40.

Yeah!...Rotors can't be loose unless the wheels are!

I'd check the sway bar Drop links.. Fair amout of failures reported here recently. They would rattle..

Sway bar links for '05 thru '08 have replacement numbers assigned to '09s. i.e. GM mandated upgrade.

The links are under tension when braking, therefore no noise then.

Was there a TSB on this? I have a similar issue, when going slow over uneven surfaces, like speed bumps, I get a clunk type noise from the front of the car, like something is loose. I had the rear end serviced recently, so I don't think that is it. Time for a trip to the dealer.
