a thick pile wash mitt, either 100% cotton or a quality micro fiber one.
2 buckets. i use Zaino car wash.
one bucket filled with soap, one for rinsing the wash mitt after every section you wash to remove debris... keep the water soap bucket clean for every section.
quality micro fiber towels for drying.
ps: chamois pulls the wax off ...or if its a polymer polish, it will dull it.

I use Meguires car wash Micro fiber mitt to wash,
Blow Dry and detailer polish when required, I use NXT 2 polish and I previously used Zaino.
Also use only Micro Fiber towels
Try going to the Zaino web site. There are some very good tips about washing and cleaning your vette. I wish I had read it before I started washing my black vette last summer. Good luck.

Wouldn't know... Alabama is using our water for, whatever Alabama uses water for. And Florida is using our water to feed endangered clams or some such nonsense. We're stuck here on water restrictions, unable to wash our cars, while you're asking about how to wash your car. Do I sound bitter?
Start at the top and work down. I use a different wash mitt on the lower section just in case anything doesn't rinse off. A 3rd sponge is for tires and around the wheels, exhaust.
I prefer a high quality terri cloth bath towel for drying, again top to bottom. They go in the wash machine with an extra rinse after each use.
You might also want to search on the Car Care Product sub-forum (click on the "Forums" button on the toolbar, select "General Corvettes", then select "Car Care Products"). There have been lots of posts on this in the past, and many, many suggestions.
Autogeek has lots of great info on their site. There's a "Proper Car Washing & Drying Techniques" link on this page:
I use the two bucket method, microfiber mitts (one for top of car, one for lower 1/3), two microfiber towels for drying (one to get 90% of the water off, and a waffle weave towel for the final dry), and it works great.

Looks like I will stop using chamois for drying as I do the other steps

The other big issue with chamois is that any contaminants that get trapped between the chamois and the paint are much more likely to scratch the paint. Unlike a chamois, cotton or microfiber towels don't rely on pressured contact to dry the car, and the towels' nap/pile allow any debris to 'hide', reducing the possibility of scratching the pain.
