Default 08 vs 09 rwhp?

there was a vendor on here a while back saying that all the 09 that they dyno are seeing 400+ rwhp and the 08 put around 380. Is this what everyone else is seeing if so then what gives. 20 extra wheel hp is alot. It would have to be more than a diff computer tune.

sorry.. but no way is a stock ls3 getting 400 to the floor. That would be less than 10% drive train loss

But then again crow could be on my dietary horizon

same hp,but the exhaust system is designed slightly different for 09,so an 08 won't fit it.

The truth of it is that when GM does the SAE horspower on a new engine. They test 18 to 20 engines on a dyno and take the engine with the lowest horsepower out of the group. I have seen stock LS3 engines with 462 HP at the crank with zero mods. These are high production engines that have quite a range in what they actually put out. RWHP depends on which transmission you have in the car also. It takes a lot more horsepower to make an automatic transmission go down the road and the wrong rear end gear will make it a real toad.

I heard the '09's were getting slightly better rwhp but not 20 hp.

If what you say is true, then it means GM quality control is TOTALLY out the window if there is that much variance between engines.

Sorry, but wrong. The new Certified HP ratings for '08 and '09 have to be + or- 2% of published for ALL engines. GM does better than that, same Dyno runs on different LS3's vary by less than 5 RWHP regardless of year.

Same Dyno tests are showing even closer than 2% variations, usually within 5RWHP and strangely enough 5 RWHP is also within the margin of error on most dynos. All the Dynojet 248, SAE corrected, smoothing 5 runs seem to be in the range of 370 RWHP for an A6 and 380 RWHP for the Mn6. (add a couple of RWHP for NPP).

You'll have to keep in mind that no Vendor (or owner) is going to advertize or post LOW RWHP values. I always post the best of 3, not the lowest of 3.

I will have my 09 A6 on the dyno for 2 pulls March 29th and the only change is an Airaid that I do not think will make much difference over the stock airbox and I will post up my numbers then

Go look at the drag times between 08's and 09's, there is no significant difference. This is just a myth, the engines are identical.

I find it amazing that even though this has been stated over and over and over, you still get people on here saying that the LS3's are under rated, and they really make 46x or 47x horsepower. No, they don't. They make 430 or 436 + or - 2 %.

Also, to those who speculate on the crank horsepower.....it is just a guess after mods are installed. Unless you remove the engine and use an engine dyno, you can't know the real horsepower.

Like seeing the 08 owners jumping up and down claiming it's the same rwhp!!

I too saw that thread and the tuner deffended the position claiming something like every 09 he dyno'd was putting down more hp, pattern developed. Sorry 08 owners GM screwed ya

personally i don't think there is any change, 08-09 same hp.
