Got my Vette...!
Got my C6 today it's a 2007 Victory Red coupe MN6 with 24,000 miles for $29,000. Got a couple questions though...
apparently the DIC innforms me to "check oil level" so the question is how can I change the oil my self? do I need ramps? how many quarts of the mobile 1 5w - 30 do I need and how much does the filter cost?
I gave Chevy a call and they wanna charge me $100, is that excessive?
Or should I just pay the hundred and forgo the hassle?
Any other new vette owner tips would be greatly appreciated?
Thanks for the help

Congrats on your new Vette.
There is a great oil change tutorial and a bunch more helpful information in the C6 FAQ.

welcome to Vette ownership oil change is simple to do and won't cost you $100 doing it yourself, which by the way seems high based on other posts I have seen. as for help doing this, check out he FAQ posts and especially one by Talon90 who lays it out for you in simple and understandable terms. good luck!

If the DIC is saying to check your oil level, that means that you do not have enough oil in the engine. I would check to see how much oil you first have or don't have and top it up and then find out why is it low...leak maybe? JMO

Take a look at Talon90's DIY from last week. If it looks like more than you want to get into then go to the dealer....or maybe find an independent mechanic who can do it for less money.

Just take to the quick lube or whatever you go to that you trust with your other cars you have had. Bring your Mobil1 syn oil and a good filter. No dealer rats will be driving your car around to screw it up.

Congrats on the vette. I'm sure you'll love it.
First I'd check how low your oil is first on the dipstick and see what % oil life you have left on the DIC. Make sure you don't have a real issue with your car. If you think you do, I'd bring it to Chevy for documentation before doing anything else.
I also change my own oil without using ramps or anything. I can reach the filter and drain plug by turning the front tires. I bought an open 7 quart oil drain pan from Wal-Mart for $2.50 because it is shallow. The vette is pretty easy to change oil.
I believe the vette uses 5.5 quarts of oil for a non Z51 and 6.0 quarts for a Z51. Filters are about $10 or less.
Edit. If you have a Z06 (based on your name you may), I think it uses 7.0 quarts of oil, but am not 100% sure.

My God! That seems really cheap for an '07. That's about what 05's are going for in my area. As far as changing the oil, I just take it to the dealer. They charge $85 here.

Congrats on your '07. With a price like that, looks like I'll be keeping mine a long, long time. Can't give it away.
