Default Need tips on DSV's e-brake boot...

OK, i've had the e-brake boot installed for several weeks and it is still causing the e-brake handle to stay up a bit and cause the "BRAKE" alarm to sound and the dash light to stay on.

If I push down on the handle just right, it will be OK until the next road bump. Today on the way to work it was pretty frustrating.

I read the other threads and before I installed it I applied liberal amounts of leather conditioner, but it still causes the handle to stay up a bit.

I think whats making it worse is the weather is still pretty cold here, making the leather a little stiff.

So, any tip from the other that have installed these in colder climates?

Thanks, Jeff

I installed this same boot last fall and although was a little resistance (tight) when the handle is forward (off), I have not experienced this same problem. I would call Gerardo and talk to him about this, they are very helpful and guarantee all there work.

I conditioned the crap out of mine before install. I also adjusted where the boot slides up over the ebrake handle a couple of times until it found the sweet spot.

Happened to me too and I just kept adjusting till it fit better.Let GERARDO know,he's very responsive to stuff like this.Just keep playing w/it.It's the thick leather that is doing it I think.

Ok, all sounds like good advice.

I posted the question on Geraldo's web site and if I don't hear from him I will call him myself.

At lunch today, I will play with it some more to try and find a better "Sweet Spot" for it.

We just need some warm weather up here. I'm still getting "Ice Possible" messages on my DIC at the end of MARCH!!!

TOO COLD...

For the greater good of the country, it is imperative that you continue to live in CT. Enduring the bitter cold and short nice weather driving seasons. Do not, repeat do not move to S. AZ where we also demostrate our love of country by shouldering the burden of an endless summer.

I had the same problem with mine but it has stretched out enough over the months I've had it installed that it's no longer a problem.

yep, I have been there, too. It is just due to stiffness of the leather.
Time and leather conditioners will stop it in short order. I don't drive my car but once a week and occasionally I still have to push down on the ebrake handle to get the alarm to go off.

As noted, the leather that Gerardo is using is a fair amount thicker than the OEM material. As such, the handle first won't go down as far initially and second the thickness and firmness of the new leather cause the handle to "spring back". Both of these conditions contribute to the ebrake handle coming up and causing the chime to sound. In my car with a summer install, it took nearly four weeks for it to stop doing it on every drive. The warmth from the sun in the cabin will help to soften the leather and continuing to press down on it (if you have a weight of sorts that you could lay on it overnight it will help as well) will allow it to take a set with the thicker leather. Also, try heating it up with a hair dryer (careful not to burn or scorch the leather) and pressing down and working the boot. Unfortunately, this is fairly common with the new leather ebrake setup.

It drove me batty for about three weeks. I called Gerardo who offered to replace it but it resolved as Paul (Talon90) described.

Paul;

Thanks for the hair dryer tip!

I guess I knew already that it would be a matter if time, especially with the colder than average temperatures we have been having.

Sunny and 46 degrees right now, maybe we are heading for better, (leather softening) weather!

Thanks All, Jeff
