That was my first thought too......but the consistency of syrup? Must have been WARM syrup.....to the OP, if it is clear it is very likely AC drip....were you running the AC just before parking it?

Yeah, we were going to point that out, but thought that if he was seeing fluid in the middle of his car and did not know what it was, then maybe he'd flashed on the location of the trans too (?)....

I'm thinking rear end fluid, probably just a bad seal.

I noticed the same type of fluid below my trans when the car was brand new. It turned out to be differential fluid due to a bad seal. After two attempts, the dealer fixed the problem and the car has been trouble free for the past 2 1/2 years (aside from the reoccuring rear axle chatter of course).

Not trying to be mean but can you describe where you found the fluid in some other fashion, perhaps how many feet back from the front or from the back that you found the fluid. It is possible that you found differential fluid if it was near the back and possible that you found condensation drainage from the air conditioner if it was near the front. I'm not sure how it would be clear if it was under the transmission.

found it directly between the rear wheels. The stuff is greasy to the touch like motor oil but definatly clear.

Sounds to me then to be differential fluid. You could have a leak at one of the axle seals to the differential. The transmission is just a little further forward.
