Default Leather shift and e-brake boot preference

I looked at my cheap sad-sack OEM vinyl shifter and e-brake boot yesterday and decided I'd really like to replace with real leather. What vendor do you recommend?....The interior is Ebony with a TKO carbon Fiber center console. I recently saw a thread about the e-brake boot causing the brake light to come on...Is that common or just an anomaly? Thanks

It is common with heavier leather but it goes away as the leather wears in.

From a vendor standpoint - Down South Vettes. The quality, customer service and workmanship can't be beat for leather work.

http://www.dsvettes.com/new/

If you go back and read the replies in that thread you will find that it is common for a new leather brake boot to make the chime sound. The new leather is thicker and must be worked in to stretch and allow the handle to return to it's normal position. This takes a few weeks or some heat applied. It will go away on it's own as the new leather boot gets broken in and allow the handle to settle back down.

Great vendor. Shift boot install is a breeze, at least on the MN6.

Down South Vettes!

All you have to do to make the issue a non issue is to use a bit of leather conditioner when you install -

Jim;

I agree with everyone here about Down South Vettes. The quality of their products and support is fantastic.

I am the guy that had the e-brake chime coming on. I is already diminishing. I just needed a few warmer days to help the leather set.

It's a pretty easy mod to add a custom look to your Vette.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Jeff...

Slow on pasting but here's another shot. Notice the fold in the DSVettes e-brake boot. It softened over time. I did it in the winter and the chiming lasted two or three weeks. When it chimed, a gentle pat on the e-brake stopped it.

Personally I dont find the oem vinyl all that bad looking. I find the e-brake handle angle sticking way up in the air up really very odd looking. GM finally came to their senses and apparently is putting in a electronic e-brake for the 2010's. I modified the e-brake angle via welding so it rests just a hair above the console.

Another vote for Chris at carskinz. Has the quality without the extravagant vette tax.

1600 miles and the black is wearing off of my OEM shift **** and e-brake handle. I don't wear rings on my right hand either. I will be looking into these as well.

Does the e-brake handle slip on or is there some sort of screw???
