Default FOB Problem

I have had the car in to two dealers for a FOB problem. I get chiming when I exit the car indicating there is a FOB in the car when there is not.

I do not have the car set to warn of a FOB left in the car.

I have been experiencing the inability to open the trunk via the FOB, the dash mounted button or the button near the license tag. On two recent occasions I have had to use the trunk key to open the trunk.

I also recently had an incident when I was unable to get any function, including to start the car.

I placed the FOB in the glove box receptacle and the car still would not function.

During the most recent service the Service Adviser told me my VIN does not have a TSB concerning this issue, as a result they wiped my FOBs and reintroduced them to the system.

This dealer seemed to be trying to solve my problem, the first dealer would not address the issue and when I picked up the car it was chiming s I had the tech come out and he blew me off and sad he did not know what to do.

Well the first dealer needs to be burned to the ground to get them out of the non customer service industry. IDIOTS! If they don't want to help customers and expect to get paid for being at work then GO HOME and let someone fill the job who will provide customer service. IDIOTS! Stories like yours **** me off.

I would think the first thing any dealer would do would be to take both your fobs and replace them with one new one reprogrammed for your car. Basically starting from scratch. New fob, new battery and then work from there. If that doesn't work then there is an in car or antenna issue which would result in more work to discover the cause of the issues you are experiencing.

Good Luck!

George

Some 08s had bad modules from the factory. The usual symptom was not recognizing the fob. If a module is defective there is noting to say that it will no exhibit other symptoms such as you describe. I would push them to replace it.

I find it hard to believe that an unresponsive dealer would last long in this market. Maybe he plans to sell a bunch of Aveos and then retire!

The RCDLR (Remote Control Door Lock Receiver) is apparently not 'seeing' the fob leave the car, hence the chime. You probably need the RCDLR module reprogrammed, not the fob.

This may help:

Occasional “ No Fob Detected” (new software)

Some owners of a 2005-08 Corvette or XLR may comment of an occasional No Fob Detected message on the DIC display when the fob is located somewhere on the driver's seat.

They also may comment that the fob reminder (3 horn honks) is heard when exiting the vehicle with the key fob. This is because the original RCDLR software does not adequately cover the driver's seat and it can also detect the fob when it is slightly outside of the driver's door.

New software will add a new zone to better cover the driver's seat, and it will also add a 2 second delay after the door closes before checking for the fob on the interior. This affects all vehicles built before October 2007.

IMPORTANT: Before programming, the radio and HVAC fuses MUST be removed and the ignition must be in Key On Engine Off mode. The radio and HVAC fuses are located in the BCM fuse block on the passenger floor electrical center. One of the fuses is labeled RDO/S'BAND/VICS and the other is labeled HVAC/PWR SND.

Program the RCDLR with revised software using the TIS2Web PassThru method. When programming, it is necessary to select Replace and Reprogram ECU.

If the programming phase does not finish successfully and the RCDLR appears to be in a locked-up state, do not turn off the ignition. The RCDLR can be reset by removing fuse 11 in the UBEC for 30 seconds. Reinstall the fuse.

Be sure the radio and HVAC fuses are pulled. Attempt programming the module again.

If the ignition was turned to OFF after the locked-up condition occurred, it's possible to continue programming. Simply add the VIN manually in TIS.

TIP: Do not replace the module -- just reprogram it. Also fob programming and TPM Learn are not required.

Model years 2005-07 Software version 25927325

I'm taking my 08 into the dealer tomorrow to have some work done and I mentioned the key fob "key in reminder" problem to them. They claim it isn't a problem and sited a new TSB 08-08-47-001. Essentially this document says to do nothing.

I seem to remember a TSB posted awhile back that contained the exact instructions you posted and was hoping you would know that TSB number.

Would you by chance know where I could access that TSB ?

Thanks

Default Interference with FOB and RCDLR

While I can't comment on the chiming issues (FOB in car notice set vs. not) I can say I went through much of what the OP has said - minus most of the attitude from dealers. Know that what causes (yes, current tense) my problem is the presence of my aftermarket GPS device. I also have my Valentine One in the car most of the time, but when GPS is NOT in the car, no issues. When GPS is in the car AND plugged in, I get the no FOB issues and then can't open doors or trunk. In addition to no FOB detected w/no start, I will also get a message when shutting off car - "No FOB detected, run or off?"

It's taken much process of elimination to know when I will or won't have problems with my FOB. Technical bulletins will mention the possible issue of interference or outside electronics with the RCDLR and FOBS...

I hope this information helps anyone that has wondered "what the ..." is going on!

Regards...

TSB 08-08-47-001 only talks about possible interference from certain devices, ie bluetooth, charging units, etc. It does not supersede the bulletin that address the bad control module. The bulletin that addresses the bad module is 07260A. This bulletin is only for 2008 corvettts with vin# between 85105302 and 85106987. There was a letter sent to all owners who were impacted. The bulletin expired October 2008. So all repairs had to be completed by that date.

However, this still does not mean that your contol module isn't bad. I would just bring it back to the dealer and have them fix it. They may not have to replace it, they could just try reprogramming it. In any case, if it is not working correctly, they have to fix it under warranty.
