Default Lug nut socket ?

Is there a special lug nut socket that is commonly used that does not damage the lug? I have yet to take off any of my wheels and before I do I'd like to get the right part so I don't damage the lug nuts.

Thanks.

Yep. I think I bought mine from Corvette Central. The socket is nylon lined so as to not damage the chrome plating. They also sell lug nuts that require a special tool to remove at least one lug nut per wheel.
The replacement cost of a set of stock wheels and tires is really expensive.

I just use a regular 6 point socket. I've had the wheels off many times with no damage to the lug nuts.

I was told if I didn't use an impact there would be no need for a special socket. Was also told lined sockets were to thick to fit in some wheels.

I use a craftsman 19mm 6 point socket by hand and have never had any damage....using a air impact might have a different result.

You guys got chrome lug nuts with you stock wheels? I bought my 08 new and was disappionted on how cheap the lug nuts look, they are capped with stainless caps that are really dull. The are definately NOT chrome plated.

No need for expensive sockets, I use a deep six point with black electrical tape on the outside not to damage the wheel.

A good 6 point socket shouldn't damage the lugnut.

I learned the hard way a long time ago that some of the wheel manufacturers use special lug nut sockets for their rims. They will not damage the rim or the Lug Nut. If you ever by a set of rims, ask the manufacturer if they have any special lug nut sockets for the rim you are purchasing. I had a exotic car that used a thin walled lug nut socket for the OEM BBS rims, anything else would tear up the lug nut wall holes on the rim. Well I was in a jam and used the standard socket and they wouldn't fix the rims free, (they did discount the repair) but it was my fault for not haveing the socket in the tool bag where it was when I purchased the car.

I bought one from CC also in anticipation of using it to remove the lug nuts on my new ZR1 repop wheels from WCC. After I had the wheels installed and drove the car 100 miles I went to retorque the wheels and found that the socket would not fit into the recess for the lug nuts. Bummer! Checked the '05 OEM wheels and found it fit with no problem.
Anybody want to by my CC nylon lined socket?
